You can set up your router manually, without the CD.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

Running the wizard from the install CD does not find the router and I know the router.modem cables are connected properly... whats next...

Hi,

It seems you're setting up a wireless network thru your router. The basic steps in setting-up a wireless connection applies to all brands of routers. Most softwares provided by manufacturers, both computers and routers, cause problems with Windows due to incompatibility issues. As of the moment, we need to use the Wireless Zero Configuration or the Windows Wireless Manager that comes with all versions of Windows.

Click the link below for proper cable connections in setting up your wireless network. This also provides somewhat a checklist on what you need for wireless connectivity.

Another application is controlling the wireless adapter

I believe you are using WINDOWS XP.
In case of windows XP, there might be 2 different wireless utilities can control your wireless adapter.
First utility is the manufacturer's utility. If you have Dell wireless adapter then you can use Dell utility to connect to the network.
Another utility is Window's utility. You are getting the error message in this utility because your computer is using another utility.
To use window's utility you will need to start the " wireless zero configuration ".

I cant get a wireless connection on my IBM R40 using a Linksys G

I had the same problem with my R40 (2681) and a Linksys G router. The specs on IBM's/Lenovo's site indicate that the wireless card in the R40 only handles certain types of wireless encryption. The newer types (e.g. WPA) won't work on it and they are usually the standard on routers nowadays. My Linksys G router works fine with the R40 with WEP or with no encryption. Not ideal, but that's life with an old laptop.

No internet access with new Linksys wireless PCI Adapter

Don .bin is a firmware that can upload to the linksys router or any router.

So it seems that your unable to connect wirelessly using the linksys adapter? The Internet connection before is working properly?

*I might advise you to reinstall the driver of your wireless adapter using the latest driver that you can download in there support site.

- Check the Internet connection hardwired to the router if connection works it seems that problem is on the adapter.

AOL Broadband Cable

The following routers are the only models that support the AOL Broadband Cable service. Note: All Linksys routers support AOL DSL connections due to the standard PPPoE login and authentication connection type used with that service. Please be sure to check the version number of your router (which can be found on the underside label). Only the specific models and versions listed here are supported by AOL Cable: * BEFW11S4 * BEFW11S4 v2, v3, and v3.2 * BEFSR41 * BEFSR41 v2 * BEFSR11 * BEFSRU31 * BEFSR81 * BEFSR81 v2 * HPRO200 (Available from AOL only at this time) You must Enable the "AOL Parental Controls" option located in the Security tab of the web-based Setup utility pages of these routers in order to get a connection using AOL Cable. You may access the utility by visiting http://192.168.1.1 in a web browser and by logging in using the router's password (by default, the password is admin).
