I have a Benq MP622 digital projector which when I connect to my Acer laptop I just get a fixed image of the laptop's desktop background image which is not 'live'. There are no shortcut icons or the bottom start bar - just the image. This laptop runs on Vista. When I connect to my other laptop a Sony Vaio running on XP the live picture comes on straight away - please could you tell me what is wrong with the Acer laptop connection? Thanks

Re: No live picture on Benq digital projector
Seems to me like your acer laptop's display is configured " extend my desktop to this monitor", that's why you can only see the desktop background. Go to your display properties and change it to clone display or uncheck the extend display option.

Check the power settings o nthe laptop, go to control panel, power options. see if its set to turn off the screen if theres no activity. I doubt this is your problem but worth a try. Going back to the viewsonic picture means its not getting a signal. So either the cable may be faulty which is less likely, or it is a software problem. Does the screen flicker on the laptop when doing the same thing (if the projector is not connected)?
please check the manual for the setup instructions also consult your notebook manual to look for the key stroke to extend the display to the projector.Ensure the little details like input mode and that the lens coveris removed etc. Also check this video for general instruction on connecting the projector to notebook (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8UN761ODCo)
So if there is not a vga input connection on your lcd tv which most do. You can get a vga to dvi cable adapter in conjunction with a dvi to hdmi conversion cable. Note that you may have to change your resolution settings in order to veiw computer images on your lcd t.v. If your laptop has an svideo output you can also connect this way but the image quality will be greatly reduced.
