plugged in headphones work. The speakers itself do not. I am thinking that it could be a defect with the product design itself since I tried to install Linux and it could not get it to work using generic drivers.

Some PC's have 2 audio outs, one in front and one in back. Often they are switcheable, as in my Shuttle xPC. If it is a sound card, try another PCI slot. If it is integrated, do a chipset driver update from the chipset maker, like Nvidia or ATI, Intel, etc.

System has power and cd's spin but no sound coming from the speakers. checked all connections and tried speakers with a different system they work fine. Please advise, Frank

First, check volume levels in mixer, both output volume and cd input volumes...Go to control panel>sound and audio devices>hardware and check to see that your sound card and drivers are working properly. Use troubleshooter if devices are disabled or not working properly. Make sure advanced settings for sound are correct for your speaker type....

Audio does not work on my notebook

you will have to go to the website to download drivers for your audio card. If you are running Windows they may have audio drivers. Go to website of the makers of your computer for drivers. Check the volume first. If this doesn't work then consider a new sound card and install it.

I HAVE NO SOUND ON MY GATEWAY GT5660E. i HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING

Do you have the speakers plugged into the correct plugs in the sound card? Make sure speakers are not plugged into the mike jack. Do you hear any static as you remove and replug the jacks? Do the speakers have a power light?

Open Control Panel ->Sounds and click on Sounds tab. Do any sounds play? Click on the Audio tab and make sure Default device is your sound card. Click on Volume tab and then Advanced. Make sure nothing is muted.

Assuming you have Windows, check the sound card in Control Panel->System, Hardware, Device Manager. Check for correct drivers. If necessary, uninstall sound card and let Windows detect it again and install drivers.

First install the driver of your "sound blaster X-Fi extreme audio notebook card" the Utility cd is enclosed in it. after that Hook your speaker to the output of the newly installed card. and then go to control panel , double click the "sounds and audio devices" and then in the "audio tab" and in sound playbak. select the device according to your sound card.

You can adjust some setting there and click ok.

may this solve your problem.
