Tom Tom has slightly dented screen, company has no way to fix it

Tomtom screen has tiny dent, which makes "rrrrrrrrr" come up every time i type something. everything else on it works fine!

tomtom support will not repair it, even if i pay them. they just want me to buy a new one.

can anyone suggest how to do this yourself, or where to send it?

I opened mine and discovered the screen is made by Samsung and is used in a variety of products. I'm trying to find a supplier in the US who will sell me just the screen. Appears readily available in the UK but taxes/shipping/exchange makes the purchase to costly.
Here are the Samsung Part numbers off the screen:

I thought I could update my TomTom one XL - but after the update I have the flashing red X and can't get rid of it. This gps does not have the memory card and you can't reset unless it's showing the main...

You may also want to try the hard reset.

Paper clip in the tiny hole by the card slot.

Push it in firmly whilst the unit is powered up (not too hard) for about 3 seconds then release

You may have to power down and then up again and even hold down the power button a little longer the first time you do this.

This sometimes works whilst powering up as well but the moment you see any sort of screen releasy the pin !

My tom tom one gps keeps saying no maps

No maps is not a common error and is usually caused by accidental deletion when hooked to a computer.

TOMTOM Home has the ability to copy missing items back to the device or even do a proper RESTORE if you backed it up.

If you try with TTH then make sure you have the latest version from the TOMTOM web site.

If you have an SD card remove it and try to re-boot the GPS

Tends to fix quite a few problems and is specific to TOMTOM's that have the tiny reset hole on the bottom of the GPS

Commonly known as a "hard reset"

You need a paper-clip or something similar ( Avoid needles )

Paper clip in the tiny hole by the card slot.

Push it in firmly whilst the unit is powered up (not too hard) for about 3 seconds then release

You may have to power down and then up again and even hold down the power button a little longer the first time you do this.

Tom Tom Go 920 jumping screens

There is little or no support for TOMTOM unfortunately. They want you to send it to them so they can extract your teeth in costs.
reformatting may not fix it as its a fault on the main board, (loose screen ribbon connection) openin unit voids warranty and there are many tiny pieces that fall out if you are not exceptionally skilled or careful.
So there is not a lot of choice here

Tom tom go 710 wont switch on

Press the tiny reset button...

You'll need the pointy end of a paperclip or a pin.

Turn your TomTom upside down and look at the underneath, with the screen facing away from you.

Starting at the back and moving towards the screen, you'll see a small traingular-shaped piece of rubber, then a plastic area with a small hole to the left, then the circuit board with all the little gold connectors.

It's that small hole that's the reset button, push your paper clip or pin in there. Your TomTom should reset straight away, but sometimes it takes a few tries for various lengths of time.

Enjoy your newly restored TomTom!

Tom Tom 910 Green light but does not come on.

Remove battery and disconnect from power for 5 minutes, also remove map card, this will reset the device. Try it out

To only way you can fix it is taking apart the Tom Tom, checking if the flat ribbon cable and connector to the screen are well in place and eventually replace the display ($80 on Ebay).
Unfortunately this will invalidate the guaranty, and you risk to damage your GPS if you are not a really experienced DIYer. Tom Tom offer one year full guaranty on all their receivers.

Tomtom one 3rd edition

I can fix it for you. Or send it back to TOM TOM. There is a service charge for this either way. But you need to have it checked out regardless because of the drop. It could of damage something inside other than the screen.

TOM TOM not working

You probaly now have a faulty charger. Unfortunatly , it will have blown 1 , 2 or even 3 tiny chips ( IC's ) inside. One thing you can try is a re-set. This can be done underneath the tomtom . look for a very small pinhole . It will have the word RESET etched / formed into the plastic moulding near the hole. Use something like a paperclip and just press it gently not hard. Make sure yor going direct into the hole , not on a slant. You should feel the little switch inside the hole click as its a tactile switch. Then try turning the tomtom on again with its normal on / off button. If it doesnt come on then chances are those chips are fried . It will need a specialist repairer who knows how to repair tomtoms , or send it back to the manufacturer TomTom.
