We have a similar problem, there is a large green circle ih the center of the screen, the outsides are normal color. What can we do?

After I replaced the bulb I have a yellowish color....no whites and it doesn't seem as bright.

So here is the big question. Should I repair this tv or get or buy a new one? How much am I looking at to repair this "light engine"?
    Thank you.

How much am I looking at to fix this bad light engine? I've had my unit for almost 7 years - already had the lamp go once...is it worth fixing or should I cut my losses and upgrade to an LCD?

I just recently changed my lamp in my hitachi 50 VF 820 and the screen has a large blue spot on it. I have done it before once or twice and all went well. Did I possibly put the bulb in incorrectly or is...

No. If the set turns on and you have a picture, the lamp is installed properly. Most of the time the optical block is the issue. The lamp shines directly into it. If the picture was good before the lamp was replaced, it is possible that that replacing the lamp might have dislodged some micro dust build up internal to the optical block and it landed in a concentrated area causing the red and green lcd panels not to pass light through as bright as the blue giving you a blue spot. Unfortunately the optical blocks are not designed to be taken apart to clean. Replacing the optical blocks are expensive. Most costing in the area of $700.00 to $1200.00 for the part. It also is a major tear down to get to the optical block to replace it. Once upon a time Hitachi had a couple of recalls on their optical blocks for various models. I do not know however if this qualified.
I hope this helps,

My problem started with a yellowish blotch in the middle of the screen. Now the color keeps chaning so that everything is shades of green. Where can I get an Hitachi optical block myself?

the light engine is most likely the problem or it has dust ball up in it.
check the lamp for discoloration if all looks OK . that could get costly.
if you have never worked on this set you can destroy the set be careful or take it to a shop.

HITACHI 51F510 MIDDLE PROJECTION LAMP

The small pcb that is hook up to that middle crt (lamp as you call it) should be pushed up tight on to the crt (also called green pichure tube). The wires that are on that small board should also be pushed on to make sure they are seated tightly. If none of this works, then take to a repair shop.
