Hello..you can try something called a HIGH-Pass filter that cuts off the lower frequencys...and only allows the 27 Mhz Band. pse contact your supplier they know what it is !..i think it is an combination of atmospheric conditions and that your radios 1:st hf amplifier/mixer isn' narrow enough, combined wih the 1'st mf -frequency....good luck Ron.

Big finals and how to install them for radio shack trc-447

It doesn't make a difference how big your final is the radio will not except it. What I'm saying is if you install a 100 watt final into it ,no matter what you will only get a max of 25 watts because the radio cannot handle the 100 watt load.No if you start changing components inside the radio to obtain the 100 watts you are now in violation of fcc rules , unless you are a licensed tech , if you were then why are you asking this question. The best thing to do do is get a 100 watt amp and hook it up. you will be smoking the neighborhood.

I have a Realistic TRC-457.It has very low power and modulation. It is a virgin radio other than someone has replaced the final and driver.I noticet that I cant set the modulation and swr levels on my dosy...

How many watts does it do? If it swings say: 1.5 watts up to 4 watts, someone has installed a swing kit which has a very small carrier. In AM, carrier is not important, its modulation and swing that makes it loud. If its low Audio modulation then it may be that final has went bad too.

I have a TRC 502A CB radio that hasn't been used in about 5 yrs. I recently tried to use it and when I transmitted, the audio came thru the speaker. Any idea what's wrong?

it could be grounded inside...Somebody may had it set for Talkback features.. Take it apart look for speaker wires (see if soldered to resistors) if its shorted seperate wires ..just have speakers wires attached. Try external SPKR. Try different mics or radio may have gone bad completely.

I need to know what colers go where on the mic pin for a trc 447 thank you

I don't know which mic you're trying to wire to this radio. The colors of the wires in the mic cable may change from one mic to another, so relying on the color is not reliable. Usually you refer to these connections as Pin1 to a Signal or Function; or Jack Pin1 to Plug Pin3. No one assumes a color will always be used to connect Pin1 to TX (transmit).

With that said, I found an answer on FixYa from someone that answered the question some time ago like this:

HERE IT IS THE CORRECT MIC WIRING FOR THE REALISTIC TRC 447.

1.)Audio
2.)RX
3.)TX
4.)CH.Down / Shorted to Ground
5.)Ground
6.)Ch.Up / Shorted to Pin 4

Be extremely careful when wiring this radio! pin 4 and pin 6 carry voltage shorting these to the wrong place can result in serious damage to your radio.

Lastly, since I doubt what was provided above is going to help you very much - you can review all the info ever printed by Realistic on your radio, here. There's a wealth of info on this page and you should be able to find what you're looking for in it. You're looking to find the pinouts of the radio to the pinouts of the mic.

If you ever have to disconnect a multiconductor cable from a connector, and you don't have the time or means to write the colors down, it is better to simply cut the cable - leaving all the colored insulation of wire ends soldered / still secured to the connector. When you are ready to do the replacement of the connector or cable, you've got the wiring order in place still, and can make the new connections one at a time at your leisure.

Good luck!

Tunning the antenna on radio shack cb trc-447

After installing the antenna, follow these steps to adjust the
standing wave ratio(SWR).
1. Turn on the CB.
2. Set S/RF/SWR/CAL to CAL.
3. Key the Mic and rotate SWR CAL so the meter points
to CAL.
4. Unkey Mic.
5. Set S/RF/SWR/CAL to SWR.
6. Key Mic again and note the actual measurement on
the SWR scale. Refer to the following table to interpret
the reading.

1:1 - 1.5 Great
1.5 - 2:1 OK
2:1 - 3:1 Not So Good
Higher than 3.1:1 Terrible

The ideal standing wave ratio (SWR) is 1:1, or a meter
reading of 1 on the SWR meter's top scale. A SWR ratio
of 1.5:1 to 2:1 is excellent for most mobile CB antenna
applications.

Check the SWR on Channel 1 and Channel 40
If the SWR is higher on 1, make the antenna longer
If the SWR is higher on 40, make the antenna shorter
Most antenna's are adjustable. Make small adjustments at a time.

I want to know about the range with handheld cb radios

It depends on lots of factors....

First, the output power of your radio. Many claim 5watts output, but when measured on an accurate SWR / power meter, they are usually closer to 4 watts. Also, they usually output full power only with external power supply, not internal batteries.

Second, the antenna. If you are using a "rubber duck" helical, range will be at its minimum. If it has a quarter (1/4) wave telescopic whip (about 2 meters!) then that would be better.
If it has a socket for external antennas, then a (1/4) quarter wave car mag mount on something metal and 1/4 wave in radius this would be pretty good, especially if mounted above any local restrictions like buildings and walls.
The ultimate would be a half 1/2 wave antenna, mounted at least 1/2 wave (5 meters!) above ground, on a scaffoling pole or similar at least 1/2 wave long (5 meters).

The station you are speaking to also has a lot to do with range, if they have a good station, then range will be better.

With 5 watts, at the right time of day, with the right antenna, and under the right conditions, CB can reach across the globe! Yes really.

You need to post more info on the type of set up you have.

Hope this helps

Swr to low?

The lower the SWR the better!

SWR is actually a ratio, e.g. 5:1, but generally speaking only the first number (5 in this case) is written as the second is always a 1. The lowest SWR you can get is 1 (1:1). So if you've got 1.5, that is very good.

Hope this helps,

Matt
