I've got teh same problem...your method didn't work.
I have an old Sanyo Model DS26050 and a Sanyo RMTU340 that is not the original remote. There is no SAP/STEREO/MONO keys on either the TV or the remote. I was able to turn off SAP by leaving the TV on and unplugging the electrical cord from the outlet, simulating a "power failure". The STEREO feature automatically returned to the "STEREO" position and now I can hear audio again on all channels. Not sure how the kids managed to change it :-0
SAP is an alternate audio program usually seen in markets with different languages. The most common is for a Spanish broadcast of an English program. It is also used to provide audio descriptions of programming for the blind. There should be a menu option under Audio to turn this on and off.
Dan
SAP (Second Audio Program) (for analog channels only) Plays the
program's audio in a second language, if one is available. The TV displays
the word SAP in the channel banner when you tune to a program that is
broadcast with SAP information. SAP audio is broadcast in mono. SAP is also
used to broadcast a program's audio with descriptions of the video for the
visually impaired. Press the right arrow button to turn SAP on or off.
OK.
