Speed problem I have 2 different computers that I switch my modem between often. Both machines are running Windows XP SP2, however the newer machine refuses to go near as quickly as the older machine. I am unsure what motherboard the older machine is using, however the newer is using the asus A8N-32 SLI board

That's interesting. modem speed is limited in the settings under control panel. Check to see that both are at maximum(usually 115000 or so)

Cannot install dsl modem

If the Modem needs drivers, and Windows doesn't already include them, you should have gotten a disc. However, if it's a newer Modem, it may or may not work with XP. XP It is no longer supported, and hackers will be looking for these machines to infect. I recommend you get a newer machine, or don't try to get on the Internet with this one.

Running windows vista service pack 2 but quicken 2014 won't open

One solution would be to run it pretending your Vista is XP. I have seen it done but as I have no Vista machine, I cannot tell you the steps. Search for running Vista in XP mode - once you have managed that, try installing the software.
The second solution would be to open a virtual machine on Vista and running that as an XP machine. Again, I have seen it done.

Try the links I have added below.

The problem I had was with Quickbooks, not Quicken, but the principle is the same and worth a try. Good luck.

I can't download xp service pack 2?

If Windows Update or Automatic Updates wont do it, do to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=049C9DBE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en and download the "network installation" version of XP SP2. Its one large file you can execute and run. Especially useful if you have multiple machines to update. Don't forget to download and update to XP SP3 once SP2 is done (and rebooted), as that's the current release.

Internet Modem does not switch off on shut down

It is not easy to see exactly what you are saying but lets see if I can be of assistance.

If your modem is external to the computer (box plugged into the PC via a cable) then the modem staying on is normal.
If you are on high speed this is expected and you do not have to turn it off

If the light on the back of the computer is right next to where the cable from the modem plugs in then the light being on is again normal and that place where the cable from the modem plugs in is NOT a usb port.

There may be some usb ports quite near which may confuse you a little

Even if the computer is off some of the newer computers have the facility that can wake them up if they get a special signal down that particular cable. This is know as WOL or Wake On Lan and is nothing to be worried about.

Iogear MiniView Micro USB Plus KVM Switch (GCS632U) Problem

The GCS632U does not have any form of display emulation which may cause video problems if the boot up is not done right. What IOGear recommends is when booting up a computer the KVM should stay on that computer until it comes to a desktop. What this does is it allow the KVM to pass the EDID information from the monitor to computer and that should help.

Installation conflict with Windows Logo Testing

IF YOU HAVE INSTALLED THIS SOFTWARE ON A COMPUTER RUNNING XP AND IT WORKED WELL AND YOU FEEL CONFIDENT WITH THE SOFTWARE, I WOULD NOT WORRY ABOUT THIS SCARE TACTIC YOU ARE GETTING ON THIS NEW COMPUTER. IS THIS NEW COMPUTER RUNNING XP,SP2 AND THE OTHER ONE RUNNING JUST XP OR XP,SP1? THIS MIGHT BE WHY YOU ARE GETTING THIS SCARE SCREEN. IF THIS SOFTWARE HAS BEEN WORKING ON A MACHINE WITH XP, IT WILL CONTINUE TO WORK ON XP.THE LOGO TESTING AND VALIDATION PROGRAM WERE MADE TO STOP PIRATE SOFTWARE. IT DOESN'T SOUND LIKE THIS IS THE CASE HERE. SOME OF THIS LOGO TESTING HAD A LOT TO DO WITH GETTING UPDATED SOFTWARE TO WORK WITH NEWER VERSIONS OF XP AND VISTA. LIKE I SAID IF YOU ARE COMFORTABLE WITH YOUR PROGRAM I WOULD NOT FEAR THE WARNING AND INSTALL YOUR PROGRAM AND WHEN YOU DO, JUST CHECK FOR ANY UPDATES TO YOUR SOFTWARE.

T6216 - Rebuild using MS xp & upgrade to sp2 from scratch. Everything works, but internet connections (either wireless, or hardwire) run only at 8 k speed. Slower than a modem speed. System does not...

Decided to bite the bullet, commenced second rebuild with Emachine recovery disk only, Solved the problem. Also required sp3 before it ran well. Good thing this was for a relative.
