Question about GPS Devices

While updating the firm ware in my Magellan 700, the process was stopped after a long period. I believe the update file unzipped into the Magellan. Now all that it will display is the Magellan Blue screen and the computer does not recognize the magellan.

  • lorinpat Mar 06, 2008

It is a Magellan 700 and the firmware is from Magellan.

POWER HAS BEEN DISCONECTED SEVERAL TIMES AND POWERED UP

  • lorinpat Mar 20, 2008

The maps are of North America.

Shutting down and powering up doesn't help.

I am willing to reformat but the Magellan is not recognized by any computer. I have tried 3 with windows XP.

The firm ware is up to date and is required in order to put in the latest map update from Magellan.

HI,

I can help you with the recognisation problem.

Do you have another PC or laptop at home.If yes then try connecting the device on another pc.I am sure it will recognize the device.

And if it does then the problem is with the first PC in which you inserted the device first. The files must have been corrupted and therefore it is not recognizing it.

You will have to do a system restore for that.

NOTE:Doing a system restore will restore the computer to a previous time and therefore you may loose your important data.
So first please take a backup and then go for it.

To do a system restore go to START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>SYSTEMTOOLS>SYSTEM RESTORE.

I hope this will help you.

Goodluck,

Hey,

The firmware update was stoped during the process?
This means your devices firmware is now corrupt!

The device needs to get its firmware replaced. Since there is no working firmware in the device anymore.

Your only option is to contact Magellan, your dealer, or a local professional with the required equipment to take the gps apart find the flash memory chip and reprogram it.

This is a very complex problem and it will cost you at a professional.

Did you try keeping the unit disconnected from the power for a few hours (also take out the memory card)?

You can try to update your GPS firmware.
Before you update your Magellan eXplorist 500 firmware or install a custom basemap, Magellan recommends that you backup all of your GPS data.
Click here to download the firmware update (Version 2.57)
Connect your Magellan GPS unit via the USB drive.
Double-click on the update file to begin the installation process.
Follow the on-screen instructions .

My magellan maestro dont boot up

Replace all the files manually.

Go to: www.magellangps.comsupport
search for the latest version 4.86
download it and save it in a folder

change Magellan_Maestro_4250_4_86_Rel1.exe TO Magellan_Maestro_4250_4_86_Rel1.ZIP
now, unzip Magellan_Maestro_4250_4_86_Rel1.ZIP to see the files.

you may need to drag & drop these files by hand onto the Magellen hard drive.
To see the files on your Magellan, plug it into your computer with a USB, and open the folder.

Lastly, try to run the update; double click on Setup.exe in folder
Magellan_Maestro_4250_4_86_Rel1
to see if it will then do all file updates for you, in case you missed any.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FROM ANOTHER THREAD:
I followed your directions above, and changed .exe to .zip: Magellan_Maestro_4250_4_86_Rel1.exe TO Magellan_Maestro_4250_4_86_Rel1.ZIP.

Then, I was able to unzip the files to see them. Then, I manually dragged all the exe files and all the dll files (i didn't bother with .bmp, .xml, or sound files). I had trouble with the file IVTDialorStrResChs.dll, and had to re-do this file and some others because I got a "file corrupt, can't copy" message. The second time, I got these to copy over.

After all this, I re-booted the Magellan. Then, I pluged it back into the computer using the USB so I could see the files again.

NOW, I ran Setup.exe by double clicking on this file in the open folder on my desktop (this is one of the files I unzipped under folder Magellan_Maestro_4250_4_86_Rel1).
It ran! I didn't need to be on the maps screen on the Magellan. Somehow, the file copies I did helped. This fixed the problem, I could see my home screen again Yeah!

The customer service guy at Magellen told me to download the lateset update, and to do it manually, if I could. At first, he tried to get me to spend $200 on a new Magellan!!

I need free updates for my magellan gps

if you are looking for map updates I have not been successful in transferring data from one unit to another. That requires their "process" experimentation on bypassing their updates on a older roadmate 700 series caused alot of pain.

If you need a firmware update that is available at their website

If you have a unit more than 3 years old don't waste money on updates the new roadmate 1430 or 1470 run about $150 and the 1 touch navigation is much better than the older software. There have also been MAJOR improvements in the GPS receiver and sensitivity is far superior to those units built even just two years ago.

if this is the north american Magellan 700, download and install the 3.32 update. follow the link below, choose your model and download update...you must have your unit registered on the magellan site before they will allow you to download anything.

Magellan Crossover - Need software tools to load waypoints, etc

Download the 2.14 firm ware update - run it it has the usb driver in it - other tools that are on the cd are useless - unless you want to add your own POI's - this unit does not let you see the map files on it - but I am looking for that if I find it I will come back here.

No audio after updating firmware ver3.32

(This soultion copied from another post worked for me.)

RM 700 lost sound after updating to ver 3.32 from Magellan website. Below is solution that works for my RM 700.

1. Search for the file ENG_F.SND sound on google or yahoo or any search engine.

2. Connect RM 700 to PC, and create folder name SOUND_EU on RM 700.

3. Copy the ENG_F.SND to SOUND_EU folder.

4. Disconnect RM 700 from PC.

5. Turn on RM 700, and go to Option, configuration, language, and choose English.

6. RM 700 will load sound file and turn off.

7. Turn on RM 700, if it keeps showing the initial screen, then connect the RM 700 to PC, and DELETE the ENG_F.SND from SOUND_EU. It should be OK after you disconnect RM 700 from PC and turn it on again.

GOOD LUCK!

My 700 gets stuck with the last map

Same problems, you have to update as far as I know and you have to update every year otherwise it will start to freeze up. It's a rip off because it's $99 a year. Does anyone know if the other GPS companies do this?
