My Korg PA800 suddenly started making hissy noise. I usually switch it on a few hours every day. It was ok until about 8 pm on the day. When I started to play about 11pm on the same day (the keyboard was ON all the time) it started giving hissy noise like an untuned FM raido. It comes with all instruments. The noise increases when the volume is increased. I have reloaded the OS to latest after formatting. The noise still didn't stop. What could be the problem? Will it be a power supply issue or Power Amplifier or even the main board ? I opened it up and didn't see any physical leaked capacitors. Can anyone help me on this ?

Thanks a lot for the info. What is a circuit cooler ? I have never replaced surface mounted components. I should find someone around to do this I believe.

That does not sound good!

Possibilities:

The D-A convertor is going bad. The hiss could be digitizing noise or noise in the conversion network within the chip.

Noise in a preamp op=amp chip.

Noise in a passive component such as resistor or diode.

Bad plated through hole in circuit board.

The power supply is NOT very likely and since volume affects loudness, teh power amp is NOT suspect..

Troubleshoot this IMMEDIATELY using circuit cooler to isolate bad part.

A tiny squirt on suspect components till you hear a change... then gentle warming with hair dryer till you home in on the part...

I SUSPECT you will find the parts are mostly surface mounted... IF you have not had experience in replacing these before, better take it ot a shop that is equipped to do this.

Testimonial: "Nice answer, and explanation. I have got a good idea of what section is went wrong. I am taking it to a local service centre."

Circuit cooler is sometimes known as freeze mist, It is a spray can that can cool parts to sub zero temperature quickly. OFTEN a bad part will reveal itself when cooled or heated.... we warm gently wioth a hair drier and alternativelyu cool suspected parts.

Korg Pa800 Pitch break

This makes no sense as a problem... If you mean there is a point on the keyboard where the pitch changes, refer to your manual about "splitting" the keyboard. This is usually done at F# and allows either a different voice or pitch for the lower section of the keyboard.

Korg pa800 mic input makes funny noise

First turn the unit off then rotate the input level volume control. If it feels loose pull up lightly on it as you do this. Also rotate all your controls that you don't normally use a lot. Chances are the pots are dirty. If that doesn't help you might want to check all the connectors inside the unit if you feel confident enough to go poking around. Other wise I suggest that you find a shop that will fix the problem. If you do go poking around make sure the units unplugged and that you have grounded yourself against static discharges.
