Trust me on this... 1 gb is not enough to have a fast startup with vista... i've 2gb and the vista occupies 45% i.e. 900mb without running any application.... this is condition after disabling some graphics elements...

Video controller for windows 7

From Microsoft:

If you want to run Windows 7 on your PC, here's what it takes:

  • 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor

  • 1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)

  • 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)

  • DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

IF your Notebook meets all other specs you would need the the above device/driver. which may or may not be compatible with the Toshiba, which was pre loaded with Windows XP.
Thanks!

Windows doesnt like hardware changes. and specially if your useing a 32bit windows it doesnt support more than 3.0-9GB of ram. you need 64bit windows to work on 4GB or more.

Hi! I just formatted my laptop and installed XP on it. After some days the machine hangs a lot. My ram before formatting ie Win 7 it was 4 GB but now it is 3 GB in XP I have toshiba brand and the model is...

The problem would be that the OS you have installed is 32Bit and cannot access Ram more than 3.26 GB , even if you have more Ram Windows XP 32 Bit just ignores it. You will need a 64 Bit OS to access more Ram.

    An in depth explanation here.

Here is a possible fix found at the Microsoft knowledge base .
read and follow the instruction given.
If you are not comfortable with the registry fix then you may have to call the mother board tech support for further instructions but this is found in the Windows 7 environment or operating system.

    Laptop RAM.

ya its definatly true that alaptop with 2 gb ram is better then a laptop with 1 gb ram
but it depends on situation and usage
if you r a graphic designer or a web designer or you r a gaming person with high loading on cpu in that case 2 gb ram will help more then 1 gb ram
but if you r a home user and using only office application and dail routine work on laptop then you might not need to spend more money on rame 1 gb is good inough for you
