Assuming that you are getting into your operating system you could try Control+ALT and Delete

Click on new task and type explorer.exe then ok

This is the shell/GUI that controls the functions you seem to be missing.

If this doesnt work please provide a bit more information,

Good Luck!

Windows run doesn't keep my work history

you have to physically save any work
save the history to a usb drive in case you have computer failure

Plug the flash drive into your computer's rectangular-shaped USB drive.

Wait for Windows to recognize the system.

Windows operating systems use "plug and play" technology, which means that computer peripherals like USB flash drives can be recognized instantly by the system without further need for device configuration.

Open the drive on your computer.

Open the "My Computer" directory if using Windows XP or the "Computer" directory if using

Windows 7 or Vista. Locate the flash drive letter and icon under the section named "Devices with Removable Storage." Double-click the flash drive icon to open it.

Transfer files to the flash drive.

Click the "Restore" button in the top-right corner of the "Computer" or "My Computer" directory to shrink the window so that you can view your computer's desktop background.

Open the folders or locations of the files which you want to save to the flash drive.

Click and drag with your mouse each of the files and folders you want to save to the flash drive over to the empty space in the "My Computer" or "Computer" window.

Release the mouse button to let the files "drop."

Close the windows and directory locations when finished.

Save files directly onto the flash drive. From an open file (i.e. text, spreadsheet, image files. etc.), click the "File" menu and "Save as" option.

Select the "My Computer" or "Computer" directory in the drop-down menu at the top of the "Save As" box. Double-click the flash drive letter under the "Devices with Removable Storage" section.

Click the "Save" button to save the file onto the flash drive.

Close the windows and files when finished

hope this helps

How to convert thumbnail into ICONS in windows 8 interface

First time I installed windows 8 i faced that problem that in place of icon it was showing only thumbnail. So here goes the solution to convert thumbnail into icons in windows 8 interface-

Open up the folder with the pictures and click on the View tab
Next click on Options to the far right
Then Click on Change folder and search options
This opens up an options menu
Navigate to the view tab
uncheck the box that says Always show icons, never thumbnails
And Check the box that says Display file icon on thumbnails.

This should solve the problem. It worked for me.

Tip

The DVD disc drive icon has dissapeared from my computer.

Try first disconnecting power cable for ten minutes, if computer is a laptop also remove the battery at the same time. This will

If there is a disk inside the DVD drive, remove the disk.

Try doing a system restore, here you get instructions for XP, Vista is similar: How to perform System Restore on Windows...

If all this does not work open the BIOS setting menu at startup and check if the DVD is detected.

In BIOS also ensure that the optical driver is not manually disabled, and that SATA port (if using serial ATA DVD) or PATA channel (if using IDE) is not disabled.

If DVD is not detected in Bios, and the DVD and/or PATA/SATA channel/port are not disabled, then you need to replace the DVD drive unit.
In that case check the DVD drive data and power connection. Eventually try extracting the DVD drive and putting it back in place.

IF DVD is detected in bios, then the problem is a corrupted Windows registry.

In that case go to Start menu, open the Run dialog box, and type Regedit in the Run box.

The registry editor will open.

lick the Start button, press run and type regedit.

Before doing the procedure, save a copy of the registry. Click File, then Export using the menu at the top of the Registry Editor Window:

  1. In the Registry Editor window open the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder.
  2. In the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder, open System.
  3. In System open CurrentControlSet folder
  4. Open Control folder.
  5. Open Class folder.
  6. In the Class folder open the folder {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} .
  7. In the right panel click to select UpperFilters registry entry.
  8. Delete the UpperFilters registry entry from folder .
  9. Click Yes when asked to confirm delete.
  10. In the right panel select LowerFilters.
  11. Delete LowerFilters registry entry.
  12. Click Yes when asked to confirm delete.
  13. Close Regedit.
  14. Restart the computer.

I don't know how to get back my Microsoft word on my computer.

Hello, there are many posibilities your MS Word is still in your computer, If you have Windows XP click on Start menu then click on all programs, and look for Microsoft office folder, once you have your mouse over that menu, it will show all your MS Office applications, to get back your MS Word icon to the desktop, right click on Microsoft Word's icon and then click on Send to, then click on Desktop (Create A Shortcut).
Almost the same procedure is used with windows Vista/Seven: Click on start menu and type in the search box the word: 'Word', you'll see all the matches, there must be MS Word among the matches, right click on it and send the icon to desktop as a shortcut.
If you don't find The office folder nor the word Icon, is time to 'restore' your system, on Windows XP press F1 key and under the Choose a task subtitle, look for something like 'Undo previously done changes using System Restore', system restore window will appear, click on next and choose a date before the problem started happening, for example if the problem started on wednesday and your most recent restore point was on monday click on monday and start the restore process by clickng 'next' button.
The same procedure is very similar on Windows Vista and Seven, for these OSes you'll have to search for 'System Restore' in the F1 help menu and follow the instructions given.
If you're still having problems finding MS Word my recommendation is to go to a computer store and seek for professional help on the subject.
I hope these tips help, best wishes.
Have a nice day.

All you can do is to try to reinstall said update. If you can identify the specific update, try reinstalling it. If not, download and install the latest Vista service pack.

Desktop icons does not appear

Have you checked the Documents and Settings folder? Basically, Desktop Icons are just shortcuts/links to actual programs.

Since you know which programs had shortcuts to the desktop, use the My Computer in the Start Menu to go to the Program Files and Windows directories to go to the actual program. Then "Right-Mouse Click" these programs, choose "Send to" -> "Desktop". A shortcut will be created on the desktop.

For the standard Windows Icons, use the right mouse click, select Properties, Go to Desktop, click Advanced then select My Computer, etc....
