Question about Brother DCP-7020 All-In-One Laser Printer
One of 2 things has happened.
There are 2 types of switches used as interlock witches on those covers.
Mechanical switches, where there would be a small opening in the frame where the cover is. It may have fallen out of the snaps of more then likely the tab that actuates the switch has broken off. look carefully with that cover open and see if a tab is broken.
You can cheat it with some not conductive item put into that opening to actuate the switch and tape over it. Then order a new cover, That's the most likely.
There are also magnetic switches used in some covers and possibly the magnet has fallen off not actuatinng the switch.
Once you locate the switch you will locate your problem.

My 7020 said the back door was open, when it obviously wasn't. After opening and closing everything that could be opened and closed, and resetting/restarting/un/replugging, I finally figured out there was a different kind of paper jam. Removed and solved.
