Ok. Press [MODE] key three times until you see a screen that shows Fix SCI and NORM. Under FIX you have 1, under SCI you have 2 and under NORM you have 3.

You cannot remove FIX, unless you replace it with another display MODE (SCI or NORM or ENGineering).

You cannot remove DEG unless you change angle unit to RADians or GRAds.
To set angle Unit You start by pressing MODE twice to get a screen that displays DEG, RAD and GRA and below them 1, 2 , qnd 3. If you press 2 the angle unit will be set to Radians. DEG will disappear, but RAD will be shown.

Whatever the display format for numbers (FIX, SCI, NORM, ENG) you can always enter numbers of any length. It is their displaying that is affected by the FIX,SCI, etc. mode.

If you want more than 1 decimal digit, press [MODE] three times, then select 1: FIX. You will be asked to select the number of decimal digits (from 0 to 9). You could take 2, 3 or 4, or anything you want.

  1. To summarize: Indicators on screen reflect the configuration or mode you are in.
  2. They can be replaced by others but you cannot clear the screen of the indicators.
  3. You can select the number of decimal digits in your results,
  4. but there is no restriction on the numbers you enter.

The words FIX DEG appear on the screen and I can't get rid of it. It doesn't calculate properly

DEG says that the angle unit is set to degrees. You can change it to RADians, or GRADs. However much you want to get rid of all of them you will always have one of them. Learn to live with them.
FIX says that the decimal displays will always show a fixed number of decimals. You can decide how many you keep. Apparently your calculator is configured not to show any decimal digits: the number of fixed digits is set to zero. Change it to some other number
There are other display formats : Engineering ENG, and Scientific (SCI)
There is another format (possibly 2) called Norm 1 or Norm 2.
Set you calculator to one of the Normal formats.
Press SHIFT MODE to enter (Setup) and configure.
Advice: Learn to use your calculator. The best way to achieve mastery is to look inside the manual whenever you do not understand something.

How and key to inverse

Look for a key marked [x^-1] or [1/x]. The marking may be on the key or on the face of the calculator. In the latter case you will have to press the SHIFT key first. Before you can calculate the reciprocal of a number the number must be entered.

Ok so my math hw only gave me the degree, minute, sec format of the angle. How do i input it in the fx 155 es to work out and find the rest of the angles, sides, etc?

Label of key [deg symbol ' "]. It is between [(-)] and [hyp]

To enter a value in decimal degrees
12.58 [deg ' "] [=] Screen displays 12.58 deg on top line and 12 deg 34' 48" on bottom line.
Pressing the [deg ' "] key while this value is displayed will show 12.58

To enter a DMS value:

Press the [deg ' "] key after each number even if one of the numbers D,M,S is nill (0).
Exemple Enter 25 deg 0 ' 48"
25 [deg ' "] 0 [deg ' "] 48 [deg ' "] [=]
Screen displays 25 deg 0' 48" on bottom line
Pressing the [deg ' "] key converts this result to decimal degrees 25.013

This showed you how to enter angles in DMS or DD. For the rest 'find the angles, etc.' you should refer to your trigonometry manual: You have the definitions of the trigonometric ratios, the sine law, the cosine law to resolve triangles.

My casio fx-992s is showing fix and deg on the screen. I think the "fix" is causing me a problem but I can't get rid of it. All my decimals are being rounded up to whole numbers! Thanks

The DEG is merely indicating that the angular mode is set to degrees. If you want to change it to radians or grads, press SHIFT MODE and make your selection.

Likewise, the FIX is merely indicating that the calculator is displaying numbers in fixed decimal notation. If you're not seeing any digits to the right of the decimal point, then you're in FIX 0 mode. To change it, press SHIFT MODE. You can choose FIX and the calculator will prompt for the number of digits, or you can select NORM.

How do I convert from decimal degrees to degrees, minutes, and seconds?

You have a key, the label of which is the degree sign, the apostrophe and the double quotation mark. It is located between the change sign key (-) and the [HYP] key.

To enter an angle with degrees, minutes and seconds you use the key to separate between numbers
Ex: 18 deg 0' 45" you press 18 [Deg ' "] 0 [Deg ' "]45 [Deg ' "] [=] As you type the calculator displays 18 deg 0 deg 45 deg but the result will show correctly. You have to press the key after the seconds figure, otherwise you get a syntax error.

While the foregoing result is still in answer memory, if you press the [Deg ' "] key the result will be displayed in decimal degrees.

The key is used to enter the DMS values and also to toggle between DMS and D.D.

Time problems

Sorry to say it but the DMS key is to convert between Degrees, minutes, seconds and decimal degrees (angle units). This cleared here is how to use the DMS key on this calculator.

FIX/Mode problem?

I do not think that the DEG and FIX indicators are preventing you from calculating any logarithm. DEG appears to remind you that the CURRENT angle unit is the degree. You can change it to RAD or GRAD if you have to use those units. However, DEG will disappear only if replaced with RAD or GRAD.

The indicator FIX reminds you that the display mode for the results is the FIXed mode, not the SCIentific mode. In the FIX mode you specify the number of decimal digits from 0 to 9 and all your results will show the set number of decimals. So if all your results have a lot of unnecessary 0, maybe you should set the FIX mode to fewer decimal digits.

If you still have a problem with the calculation of logarithms, maybe the syntax you use is incorrect.

Try number then log
If that does not work
try log then number.

Problem with Casio FX 260 Calculator

Read the screen capture about the MODES of this calculators. DEG,RAD, and GRAD remind the user that the angle units in trigonometric function calculations and coordinate conversions are in degrees, radians or grads. They have nothing to do with the other calculations you are doing.

874c328.jpg

You can only remove DEG by changing the angle unit to RADians or GRADs. In so doing, the new unit indicator (RAD, GRAD) will be displayed instead. There is no point worrying about the angle unit indicator unless you are performing coordinate conversions or calculating trigonometric functions or the inverse trigonometric functions.

MODE 9 cancels the FIX display format: decimal are displayed with a fixed number of decimal places (set by the user). After this key sequence the decimal display format reverts to NORM(al).
