Have a sattellite m505D. Turned it on and only the power light comes on. Screen stays dark with no activity at all. Tried turning off and on several times with same results.

if nothing is coming up no activity or fan no cpu running im thinking to get your motherboard tested if your cpu is running try replacing your backlight or inverter both are relatively low in cost good luck and hopefully helpful

IBM think pad t40...the screen stays black. Shows

Are the activity lights blinking like the computer is doing something? If so the monitor may be disconnected from the unit or damaged. If so this is a pc repair issue, and a little tricky to do on your own.

USB PORT NOT FUNCTIONING

does your machine make it to the windows login screen, or does it fail before.

I think you haven't installed you CPU correctly, or maybe did not put heat sink compund evenly on the heat sink, and that causes the CPU to overheat and freeze.

P5NT won't boot

I went throught this and it is really silly. The P5N-T motherboard has a problem with some of the new energy efficient CPUs. The fix was to insert an older CPU and upgrade the bios and then it would recognize the new CPU. If you happen not to have an older 775 CPU laying around (most people do not), it might be easiest to return it and get a different board - or maybe the store can upgrade the bios for you.

Notebook not starting and screen remains blank.

this will be easer than you think.
first unplug power cord, pull out your battery and test it by pushing the button on the battery. It will be dead. leave it out. plug in power cord, nothing should work. test your power cord. if nothing than test lower on the cord it might be the plug in that plugs into the laptop. what happens is the battery get to low and the lappy goes into a safe mode . you will need a charged battery to get it to boot.
