Just replaced the timer myself on a Kenmore 80 series washer. i also had to replace the dial and knob because the plastic was worn. The washer seems to work but none of the settings match up correctly. Did I mess up when I put on the dial?

Our kenmore 80 series (110.27812692) pooped out on us,... the motor and water pump needed replaced, so we bought a used kenmore 70 series (110.82872820) from a friend,... it works fine, but the control...

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer(s):

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter the model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Check the part numbers for both machines in the "Console" section.

Also see the following Whirl[pool Service manual for top load, direct drive washers.

Whirlpool top load, washers use one of two different timers. Depending on the timer the knob comes off differently.

For most, by holding the back of the timer shaft with a thin needle nosed pliers, the knob unscrews.

Kenmore Series 80 Washer timer knob spins

Something in the timer came apart. Timer needs replaced. When in good working order, the timer should ONLY ever be turned clockwise..Reversing this could break it.

Kenmore series 80 model 110

If you are talking about the Cycle Selection knob, turn the washer to an OFF position, or unplug. I can't remember if you need to pull the knob out or leave pushed in, but the knob will come off by turning it counter-clockwise. After unscrewing it and removing, the plastic dial under the center knob will simply pull off. I hope this helps you. If you need further assistance, please let me know.
