Lo Hi Air UHF refer to separate bands to be monitored.

25 50 75 are the KHZ steps that can be set for searching.

Using these functions can limit what is found either during close call or during search. By switching to 25 50 or 75 in will search in those size jumps. IE in 25 155.000 155.025 155.050 155.075 etc.

How do you manually program frequencies into the private list?

As evidenced by the lack of a numerical keyboard, your scanner is an oddball that does not allow direct keyboard programming of a known frequency. Rather, you can only transfer a displayed frequency from the SCAN mode or SEARCH mode into the PRIVATE bank. Details for doing this can be found on pages 24 through 26 of the Uniden owners manual. If you don't have the manual, you can download and print it, at no cost, here:

How to tell what the buttons do?

The HOLD key lets you freeze the scanner on an active channel. For instance, if the scanner stops on channel 3, and there's a lot of action there. you can press HOLD to lock the scanner on that channel until you press the SCAN key. Repeatedly pressing the HOLD key will manually advance the selected channel.

SCAN releases a HOLD asnd will also take the unit out of PROGRAM or SEARCH modes and start it scanning the frequencies that you've programmed.

FUNCTION selects the secondary (lower) function of a key. For example, pressing FUNCTION and then the E (ENTER) key will switch the scanner to Pgm (Programming) mode - which lets you enter and store frequencies into the unit's memory so that you can scan them later.

All keyboard functions are explained in detail in the scanner operating manual, which you can download/print here:

I have a uniden bc72xlt hand scanner and after it is on for a short time it stops on found and then found disappears but you have to push scan, it does not resume scanning on its own

It sounds like you are in signal stalker mode. In this mode, the radio automatically tunes to the closest signal. If you are in this mode, you will see what looks like a "C" with a circle around it, with what looks like the outer edges of a + sign behind it. Press "function" and "hold" repeatedly until this icon disappears from the screen.

For more information, you can download the complete operators manual from Uniden. The link is:

Hope this helps! Good luck!

My scanner comes on but does nothing it don't scan up or down but did at one point and time what is up with it?can someone help me

I've got a couple of options you might consider:
1. You may be in "manual" mode & the scanner's locked onto one frequency (one that obviously doesn't have much happening on it if you're not hearing anything!). Try pressing the "Scan" button, which will take it out of Manual mode.
2. You've accidentally "initialized" the scanner which means all of your frequencies have been deleted (sort of like wiping your hard drive clean). If that's what's happened, you'll need to re-enter all of your frequencies.

UNkown functions on the bc72xlt

1) the words Lo, Hi, Air, and UHF are indicating that you told your scanner to hold on a specific frequency modulation, this is normal, pay it no mind.
2) these numbers represent sub-frequencies that are encoded into the scanner's frequency ID decoder. These numbers can also sometimes identify the frequency's pre-programmed bank number.
These problems are all basic functions of your scanner, I hope this answered your questions.
