Re: How to boot the hardisk in ps2 with matrix mod chip?
Well you got half of it correct lol. Here's your problem, you don't have what xbox would refer to as a dashboard. Meaning you don't have the software installed to navigate your Hard Drive. On top of that you don't need a mod chip at all to do what you're doing. Here I posted a forum post on this topic a while ago on my site(i'm error btw it's my post) So if you have any further questions feel free to send me a message on my forums. Yes this is referred to as a Soft Mod. And it's a full tutorial from A to Z with pictures. This page gives you all the software you need and full detail on setting up your memory card to boot your hard drive. The program for that is called HD Advance btw. The only program you shouldn't need that i've included in my tutorial is Cogswap. Since you have a mod chip installed you shouldn't need to do any swapping at all.

In order to play copied games, you will first have to mod your PS2. To avoid piracy, much of the necessary info on the original disc will be omitted during the copy phase. When you "mod" or put in a new chip, The PS2 can now bi-pass this info and continue to the game. Regardless of the type of PS2 you have, you must put in a mod chip to read back-ups.
well a slim ps2 may not be able to be modded as well as a phat ps2 which can take a hardrive which allows you to store files like ps2 games to play on a softmodded or hardmodded ps2!
Softmods:A softmod consists of modding a device but only its software[data, drivers] and thus its "soft"ware is changed allowing you to play ps2 game files or burned dvd ps2 games. One draw back is the slim ps2s could be softmodded, but you cant install a hardrive so its much harder to mod and almost pointless. You can play burned ps2 games but then a Hardmod is needed to help get past security chips!
You can use a method of putting tape and objects in the way of sensors in the ps2 so the ps2 slim will think the dvd tray is closed when its not and you perform a disc swap. look up ps2 disc swap techniqes.
With a phat ps2 you can simply put the modded files on the hardrive and then install them threw the ps2! look online for websites who can teach you how to get and do this stuff.
HardMod: A Hardmod consists of actually adding a physical chip to the device! this is by far the most task worthy. to be frank i cant install a chip on any device and even with the charts. but people are out there who will actually be able to install a mod chip on your ps2. you can find chips but you need someone to install it. i say find someone on the internet or ads who has the chips and the talent to install it.. costs about 150.00 less or more!
You need a mod chip. Search google for ps2 mod chips.
This is a VERY VERY difficult process, in fact you'de be hard pressed to even find a tech willing to take on the job of soldering all the wires. When all is said and done the inside of your PS2 will look like a spiders web of wires.
My best suggestion to you is to buy an already modded one. You are warned, unless you are an expert with a soldering iron and understand electronics very well don't attempt this.
You have to disable the region lock by installing a so called "mod chip". This is a microprocessor (PIC Micro) that is wired inside the PS" or othe game consoles. There should be stores in your place that offer this service.
Here is are sample of mode chips:
You can also google for sites that give instructions on how to install the chip and where to buy it.
