While driving my 2003 Jetta TDI last night accelerating up a hill my battery light came on and the car died. All other lights work, glow plug light still comes on. Engine turns over but does not fire. Checked the relay and the anti shutter valve. Any ideas?

Did you check the battery? Alternator? The 2003 Jetta TDI's are FAMOUS for breaking the alternator pulley right off the shaft. Is your serpentine belt hanging?
You could have a bad battery, broken alternator, broken serpentine belt, or bad alternator among a few other things. If your belt is hanging either the belt broke or more commonly, the alternator puller broke off the shaft.
It happens all the time with the 2003's

I have a 2003 VW tdi - the glow plug light is consistently coming on. I have had them replaced several times over the last year. What can I do to fix this problem long term?

Check your relay and wiring bridge. Either could be faulty and throwing a glow plug code. Start by diagnosing the relay since this is the cheaper of the two. Go to the TDIclub.com forums and look up glow plug and you will get an excellent writeup on exactly how to do this.

Jetta diesel 2003 TDI the coil light comes on while driving and the cruise control does not or stops working. When the car goes over a bump the light goes out. Maybe unconnected but the remote key unlock...

Get some electronic parts cleaner from radio shack or a electronic parts store, remove each glow plug terminal and spray liberally and reinstall with dielectric grease, this may not work, hate to say that, but you may have to replace the wiring loom to the glow plugs, they are not the best quality wires, they other issues may be related to corrosion too, try the cleaner and dielectric grease has solved a lot of problems for me in various cars. good luck

02 VW Jetta TDI with ALH engine glow plug

this is a common problem for these cars glow plugs go bad like spark plugs however the smoke would lead to bad mass airflow meter. it is not telling ecu corrcet miss. disconnect mass airflow meter. when cold see if this makes it start better. it should would means you need new m.a.f. glow plug issue take a test light place clamp on positive of battery then pull off glow plug connectors place tip of test light on glow plug the bad one will have a dull light unlike the good one which will be brighter. will need new plugs and wire harness four **** connectors and wire striper and crimper will fix concern good luck

Engine shut down while driving.....

needs a new alternator, going down the hill, your RPM's dropped and all of the draw on from the electrical system came from the battery, and caused the battery to die too

2002 jetta TDI- I try to accelerate up a hill and no power

Count the shifts. It sounds like you are going into overdrive and staying there. Overdrive is too long legged to pull most hills unless you are really flying.. good luck

Sounds like it is telling you that you need to get a glow plug replaced that is not functioning properly. Have a reputable shop let you know which one it is.
