You didn't say what operating system you are using in your PC. If you have Windows XP or later follow these instructions. Since you apparently have the driver and software on a CD, unplug the camera from your PC, remove the camera software from the PC, remove the driver using the Device manager, restart the PC, then plug your camera into the USB port. Allow the operating system to find the correct driver when it notifies you of finding a "New Device". Normally that will solve the problem. If it does not, then reload the software.

Oh I completely forgot to include the windows XP SP3 and the laptop is a Dell D630.
I already tried that, same results "The data is invalid" and the icon in the device manager remains yellow under "imaging device" canon digital camera.
