Motorola RAZR V3 - Backlight

When I close the flip, the backlight continues to stay on. I have tried changing the display timeout, etc. How do I fix this?

I changed the housing on my V3 RAZR, now the displays act like it's flipped open all the time. Also, the phone does not answer on open or hang up on close. Did I screw up a switch somewhere?

Same here, the keypad backlight will not turn off at all. I got an unlocked phone and I wonder if someone screwed something up. Everything else works when I open/close the flip... all relating lights and functions, asides from the keypad backlighting. :(

Try removing the battery for a few seconds then restart the phone. Other than that, it could be a defective switch on the phone that detects when it's closed. If it answers / hangsup when the opened or closed... the switch is good.

I had this same problem after dropping my phone once. Turns out there's a very tiny magnet inside the phone that trips a proximity sensor when the phone closes, in turn starting the backlight "turn off" timer. Since I do this sort of thing for a living, I cracked the phone open and glued the magnet back in place where the supporting plastic had broken allowing the magnet to move slightly.

WARNING! Do not attempt this fix unless you're very good at this sort of thing. That stinkin' magnet is super tiny and I lost mine for about an hour since I didn't see it fall out while I was taking the phone apart. Good luck!

I have a GSM V3 Razr I purchased unlocked. The "Display Timeout" settings are, "Off" "1 Min" and "2 min" but it doesn't matter what it is set to as the "Backlight" setting choices are "5 sec" "10 sec" and "20 sec" and these are the settings that seem to control my display. 20 sec. is the longest my display stays on. How can I change it to stay on longer?

I had the same issue with my razr. what worked for my phone was going to the backlight timer settings, and setting it on the '1 minute' option. it's now nice and dark. for some reason, the 'off' setting doesn't do this.

When not in use, the phone continues to stay illuminated, like when it's flipped open. It draws down the battery within 1 day. Any suggestions? It seems like it might be a switch not being activated when...

go through your menu options to display settings. there should be a BACKLIGHT option which should allow you to select a a lesser amount of time that the phone stays lit.

Screen will not display

I have had the ribbon cable go defective in flip phones. In some phones that I had backlight went defective. These were not all Motorola.

The fix in my phones was to change the screen and ribbon cable. If the phone was out of warranty, I retired it and bought a new one. The cost of repair was too high in relation to the repair.

Broken backlight

if you open the v3 phone shall see 4 rubbers...remove the rubbers with a very small flat bit screw driver then unscrew the 4 screws in the phone then use the small flat bit onc more to open the phone cover, then remove the silver button on each side of the phone, unclip the cable leading to the camera and also the clip connecting to the lcd once those are removed then replace the old screen with the new one.
