I think my grandchild did something to my fpt5084 plasma with the remote. I can't get a picture when on set top box and when watching a DVD there is only a picture on the bottom half of the screen. The top half of the screen still works as I can see the TV menu on the top half. The set is less than one month old

What you are experiencing is what is called text mode, it produces a black box over the top of the picture and is related to CC (Closed Captioning). You should have on the front of the set a video button, by pressing this button you can scroll through all the different settings until you get to the CC menu, just select it to OFF. You may also be able to access the menu and navigate to the closed caption section and turn off the text mode.

We have the 61" Samsung. WE LOVE IT!!! We have a DirecTV DVR box. On the DirecTV remote there is a "format" button. It cycles through all the different options. (Pillar Box, Stretch, 720p,1080p, etc.) Adjusting the picture setting with the Samsung remote is not the same thing. Try using the cable remote......see if it works the same as mine.
Go into menu on cable remote and open up 480p,480i,720 and 1080 . I think on some of those 1080HD only works on one of the two component inputs. The other is only rated for 720. Usually it has this info on set at input. Hope these suggestions are helpful.
The changeover slated for Feb 2009 only effects those people that receive TV signals from antennas. If you currently use cable or satelite, you do not requrie a set top box. Your particular model has an HD tuner so you would be fine in both cases.
Normallly, if the picture size button on the remote for the television does not achieve the desired affect, then, a cable box or a satelite box is where the change needs to be made. For example: A MotorolaCable box needs to be set up to go to a wide screen or zoom when an analog signal is detected. Some DishNetwork boxes have Size buttons on their remotes and also in their main menu. It's difficult to determine the repair without knowing the types of the peripherals. Hope this helps.
use the advanced options page and reset the factor blue and red convergence defaults then do re apply the auto color defaults color at first it seemed very red (which is good because red was the missing factor in the green picture) but after reseting all the color and tints to the normal ranges I then reset the color auto correct again and all seems fine.
I don't think the set will allow resizing in DVI mode, at least mine never has. I have to switch to the video input or S video to get that to work. I think there is something in the manual about that. On mine, the component input will not work if you have the DVI connected. If you have DTV, try resizing the image on the satellite receiver's remote. Sometimes, in the DVI mode, that works. I am about to pitch this set of mine out, as it now has fried something in the convergence system and won't work at all, so if the new convergence board I have ordered wont fix it, its going up on Ebay for parts !
