In order to remove the PC cover, the Dell manual mentions to slide the latch in the back and pull back to remove the cover. Easier said then done. The cover won't budge. When you lift the cover side with a butter knife (to have a look in) the cover looks like it is clipped in.. i'm so frusturated i fell liking taking a hammer to it,

Lay your computer on its side with the computer cover facing up.
6 If your computer cover has a cover latch, slide and hold the cover latch.
7 Grip the indents on the computer cover, and slide the computer cover toward the back of the
8 Place the computer cover on a level surface.
Computer off, cables unplugged. Lay the computer on it's right side. (As you view the computer from the front) On the back towards the bottom, you'll see a slide latch. Looks like a metal tab that sticks out a little. laying on the side, the latch is pushed down towards the bottom. Then you will see two indentations on the side cover. Looks like you would use your fingers to grab these indentations to pull on. You do.You are trying to slide the cover towards the back.I HAVE run into one, that the slide lock would not fully release all the way. Makes it REAL FUN(?) to get the side cover off. I had to use a very non-professional way to release the slide lock, and slide the side cover back. (A little case metal bending, was involved! Fortunately I'm a pro, and it was brought to me with this problem. I received permission to open it anyway I could. I bent everything back smooth, and removed this slide lock)This is Dell.com/Support, and the Manuals page for the Dell Dimension 4700. More specifically, the page that shows and tells you how to open the computer case.http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim4700/sm/cvrop.htm#wp1052331After you view this, I also suggest you may want to take a look at the page for installing Ram Memory. Just go to the top of this page, and click on the blue -> Back to contents page <-

This a tower right? I don't have a gateway but I have a dell and a compaq tower they come apart pretty much the same way. The left side panel slides out by pulling from the back. Some may have a screw or two you have to loosen or take out. Then you can either slide it by pulling from the back or there could be a latch that you slide to unlock it. Wow I can't believe it 60 bucks. Just keep messing with it you'll figure it out!
