The lens apetrure ring must be set to the highest number, ( smallest aperture, f 22,f 32 ) for the camera to work in full auto.

I have a Nikon F601 and I put a 400 iso film recently and I sort of didnt know how to load it on properly so I pressed the shutter release button as I loaded it twice when youre only suppose to press it...

Remove the lense, or the film if you're willing to waste it, and check to be sure the shutter blades aren't damaged. It'll be fairly evident if they are. If they are, the camera is pretty much now a paperweight. I hate to tell you that - but shutter replacements are VERY expensive and parts for most of these models no longer available from Nikon.

If that is not the issue, set the mode dial to M and try to take a shot. If that also doesn't work, either the batteries are exhausted or there is an internal issue in the camera. At this point, try new batteries. If that also gets you nowhere, you'll need to seek a reputable service tech, either through Nikon directly, locally if you can find one, or online/mail-order. If you have to go mail-order/online I'd recommend KEH Camera out of Atlanta, GA. They are very reasonable, have decent turn around, and do good work - but expect at least 1 month without your camera.

In M(anual) mode, be sure the lense is also set to M, via the switch on the front of the camera near the lense mount. You're not worrying about the quality of the image, only if the camera will take one. In manual mode, the light meter and other functions will have NO bearing on anything the camera does or doesn't do. At this point the meter reads out only for your information for you to set the settings yourself. The batteries do everything else - firing the shutter, driving the motor, etc.

Mirror isn't staying down

That camera is going to have to be sent to a repair facility for repair. It has a major problem with the shutter or mirror box mechanism.

How do i read a light meter on a Nikon N55? i see the f stop but i dont see the shuter speed, how do i adjust and how do i know its right?

Your camera is either fully automatic or fully manual. In addition it has shutter priority and aperture priority semi-automatic functions. With shutter prior. you pick the shutter speed you prefer and the camera will adjust the aperture. With Aperture prior it works the other way around. The exposure will be always the optimum (decided by the camera program).
You can adjust these automatics with the program dial.

I can't get meter reading for my Nikon N75

It depends on the lens. If it's a CPU lens (has electrical contacts) then the meter should work in any mode. If the lens doesn't have contacts then the meter won't work.

My nikon n55 is flashing err after installing new film

It could be that your camera doesn't know it's rewound the film already. With the camera turned on, push and hold BOTH manual rewind buttons simultaneously - one near the release button ( +/- ) and the other toward the front of the camera at the lens release button. Try the release button again.

Could be many different issues.
What camera is it?
When you put a lens on it, is the view finder quite dark?

Cannot get Error to go away

If it's a D lens or similar, check that the lens is set to its minumum aperture (and locked) - ERR normally means that the lens is not at its minimum aperture.

If your lens is a G lens, then the camera is probably faulty.
