I have an Acer Aspire 5720 and the display no longer turns off after a period of non-use, I have adjusted the control via the 'control panel' but to no avail. Can anyone help?

Unplug your laptop and remove the battery from it, and wait 5 minutes, that should drain any remaining power from the laptop, re-attach the battery and the power cord, and turn it on. It should work fine again.
Well the first thing that you have to keep in mind before reformatting your hard drive is to ensure the backups of all driver devices on your laptop. Since you already reformatted, the best way is to look up the correct drivers for the Acer Aspire. I would start looking at the Acer site. Go to this site and scroll down to the audio driver. http://www.laptop-software.com/acer-software/acer-aspire-8730-notebook-windows-7-drivers/
PLease go in control panet by pressing start buttan. Then click power option & change the sleep & stand by mode from there. Your problem will be solve then. Thanks.
Upon loading press F2 or del to enter bios setup and change the settings to display the acer welcome screen and the one you said about Microsoft logo and white box with green lines, you cant by pass it because it's windows loading screen
