My older model electric hotpoint selfcleaing range, lower oven self cleaning function is not working. what could be wrong, maybe i didn't set a control knob correctly, don't have a maual for t

Back to the fifties! If the lower oven cooks normally, the heating element probably is OK. For self cleaning the normal temperature setting is bypassed and the heating element is set to a substantially higher level. Your oven may be unable to self clean because operation of the knob may not actually start the cycle. The thermostat could need replacing even though normal cooking is OK.

We have a Maytag Gemini double oven. The lower element in the upper oven is not working. Tried replacing it, but that didn't work. It's getting power and everything. Any suggestions?

You may have a bad oven sensor. If you look in the oven you will see a small probe about the size of a pen that is the oven sensor. Hope this gets yu going in the right direction. Thank you for using Fix ya

Oven won't heat, all burners work

I suggest that you remove the upper and lower heating elements to the oven, turn the oven switch to on, then use a good digital voltmeter, and check the plug that the lower heating element was in. If you have good (200 volts or more) then purchase and install new heating elements. Turn the oven switch to Broil setting and check the same way for the top heating element.

I own a frigidaire es200 electric range MODEL# FEF352DWE my oven wont heat up, indicator lights are working but no heat at all in the oven yet the broiler and stove top works just find just the bottom...

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. If you have a electric oven or a gas oven that won't heat or doesn't heat properly, here are some things you will need to check. The most likely cause of a oven not heating correctly is a defetive heating element. You have two types of heating elements in your oven. The bottom element(s) are the baking elements. The element(s) on the top are the broil elements. If you don't see the bright red glow from the element, chances are they are not working or not working correctly. If a heating element is bad, you need to replace the entire element. If your oven is warm and not correctly hot, one of the elements may be bad. In most ovens, when you preheat, both elements are used. This would make the oven to appear like it is working correctly but it is not. If the elements are not working, they might not be getting power. Test the wires to the elements with a voltage meter to make sure they are getting power before you decide to change them out. Many electrical ovens have a sensor that monitors the oven temperture. Ovens that have this sensor usually contain a digital display on the oven. The sensor could be defective. Those without the sensor use the basic mechanical system to control the oven temperature. You also want to check the thermostat sensing bulb. Make sure the bulb is good and has not come loose. Now, if you have a gas range oven that doesn't heat properly, first, you want to check your bake igniter. It may have burned out or it could be not working properly. It will be located near your burner. It is also possible that you are not getting gas to the burner. If so, it may be the gas safety valve or the igniter. You need to check your selector switch and thermostat as well. They may be defective. Always make sure you test the parts for power with a voltage meter of some type before you decide to change the part. If you have a part that appears to not be working, it may not be getting power because of a bad wire or broken connection. Thank you for your time and thanks for choosing FixYa.

Lower element does not heat

most likely the element needs replacing, check for arcing holes, melted spots. check fuses, normaly under cover at top of stove. element is easy to replace(a few screws), unplug stove when doing so.

This is generally a simple procedure. May I suggest www.repairclinic.com.

Bottom Baking element not working

If all your connections are solid then your controller is defective. Did you get any faults before changing the element? Does the broil (one at the top of the oven) work?

Lower burner not working

You don't have to look for a certain resistence on the element, just continuity. If you have a digital meter it should beep when you check across the terminals. You can check for voltage also, 240 volts constant, it doesn't change with temp.

You can turn power off to stove, remove element, turn power back on, and do these checks, but it is safer to pull the stove out, remove the back and check from there. There will be 120v at element even when it is off unless control has double line relay, don't take the chance.

Let me know what you find.
