Question about Video Cameras

1 Answer

Samsung Scd107 I have a Samsung SCD107 camcorder and I have trouble with the screen being black. I read one of your probelm responses that there was a defective CCD and that they would replace it. Were you talking about or Samsung and if you were how did you go about getting the information to get it fixed. I called Samsung and the guy told me that they have not ever issused any recalls for that model and I would have to pay to have it looked at. Please help me if you can. Thanks.

Sorry it took me so long to reply, check their web sites customer help first. All I know is that their ( I am talking about the camera manufactures like Sony, JVC, Samsung, etc.) ccd imager are made by only one company ( asahi glass) and this company recalled all those 2002~2005 released ccd and replaced it with a stronger design, I don't know if they were still doing it at present. Sorry, many clients informed me that they were not doing it now.. I don't think it's reasonable, those company should stop selling those rejects even for a cheaper price!!! They should replace them already right before they sell it.

My camcorder is charged up, but when I turn it on,

You probably got a bad LCD and battery even though it says its charged this is not the case as batterys have cycles just like washers and dryers once the run out they need to be replaced that means the whole battery. The lcd is another anaimal you probably got moister from sitting in the closet this happens is there is clothes and other things (NEVER KNOW) I would take it to a camera shop foe evaluation.

I need the driver software for sc-d107 video camera

Maybe you are using an old driver? Samsung cameras work with Windows without any problem. Navigate to the following page and download the software for your camera:

Please type SCD107 in the "Search product support" bar and you will taken to the driver download page.

The ccd chip replacement

I did not find any step by step instructions. I just took my time and took it apart. I got A schematic from here
enter the scd103 in search. You have to download
"ALL THE FILES" first, There are 9 files in which you have to get.
As for buying the CCD chip, I have not rally searched into buying one. As I bought A scd103 and A scd107 off E-Bay and put the 107 CCD chip into the 103. I can look around to help you find the chip.
Hope this helps.

I have a black screen

Fixing Your Samsung SCD107 Camcorder by bawhitmer
push the "EASY Q" button. After a few minutes it popped up and started working again. Problem is, after 5 minutes it went to black again
surgery that it had a bad CCD and possibly the CCD control board. In any case you can find both at with part# AD97-08366A. This is the CCD and Board assembly and is around $56.00. If you think that you might just need the Control Board then its part# is AD97-08367A and is around $19.00. In any case neither operation requires any soldering as the ribbon cables just unclip from their sockets.
*Before proceeding with this surgery make sure that you take note to where all the screws you remove go back. Also be sure to remove all screws completely.
Step 1 (Front Cover Removal): Remove battery then remove top silver screw just in front of the "nite pix" switch. Then lift the DVI cover to locate and remove the second silver screw. Then, with the camera lens and light facing you roll the front cover to the right(it can only really roll one way) while pulling the front cover at the same time. Its held in by a clip. When its free disconnect the light connector if it hasn't already come off during the front cover removal.
Step 2 (Splitting the Case): Remove five(5) silver screws from the bottom. If you count them there are a total of eight(8) so remove all EXCEPT the one screw at the tripod boss AND the two screws on the tape door. Next, proceed to remove the two black screws located in the battery tray in the back. Then flip the camera so you are looking at the hand strap, DVI cover, etc... Locate the two black screws by the "Slow Shutter" switch and remove. Next, flip up the eye piece and remove only the right screw. *Be sure to remove this screw completely because it is held in place by a threaded stud plate and it could fall out and bounce into that other dimension where all important little things go. The case should now be ready to split. Gently work the case in two and pay attention to the ribbon cables as you separate the two halves.
Step 3 (CCD and Board removal) The CCD and Control Board are removed as one unit. Remove all ribbon cables attached to the board. If the ribbon cable socket has a long brown bar across the top flip it up and remove the cable. If it has two brown buttons on the left and right of it then pull each button out and remove cable. *Take note to the orientation of the cable in the socket ie up or down. Unplug any remaining power wire sockets on the board. The board itself is held in by two(2) screws. Locate and remove these screws and lift the CCD and Control Board Unit out.

For installation, read these instructions backwards.

No display on LCD or viewfinder when recording

I had the same problem with Samsung SCD103. It was sent to the factory January 2007($150.00) and everything worked fine until last week when the grandkids came down. The camera simply stopped displaying any image, the viewfinder went black. I suspect is a failure on the CCD. Now, I have a non-working camera that I've bought extra batteries for and lots of DV tapes. I won't buy another Samsung product now that I've seen the problems and apparent lack of concern for the customer!
