Question about Dell Photo 964 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Faxing/scanning from AIO 964

I have a DELL Photo 964 All-In-One, that is giving me issues in the fax SENDING department, and in Scanning to email. When I try to send a fax, the recipient only gets the top or bottom half of the document, then it sends their fax machine an error message. Also, if I try to 'scan to email' so that I can email the document that won't be faxed, it doesn't scan the entire doc from side to side, on the middle 2 inches or so.

The ADF function of the 964 doesn't seem to work. When I scan a document (for fax or file), it only scans the bed. I had this problem before and was able to resolve by reinstalling the software. However, this time, it does not seem to resolve the issue. Any ideas?

The ADF on the Dell 964 does not work for me either. I have been able to magically get it to work in the past, but now cannot get it back. Something mysterious... I wonder if there is a mechanism that gets triggered when the paper is inserted (it seems to work fine) that is not functioning properly. However, the printer is in very good condition and I feel the paper being inserted into the ADF like it should.

I should also mention that I was able to get the faxing to use the ADF, just not the scanning, so it seemed to be a software/firmware issue. Now, I cannot get either to use the ADF. I tried the A04 firmware with no luck and then downgraded to the A03 firmware, still with no success. This is extremely frustrating. Any ideas are welcome. Please help!

Trying to print to a dell photo aio printer 964 from my laptop and it keeps telling me "communication not available; the printer cannot communicate with the computer; please turn on enable...

Bidirectional Printing - A means of printing by a computer printer which prints one line from left to right, then the following line from right to left. Such printing is faster than printing in one direction only, as there is no need to wait for the carriage or other imaging mechanism to return to the left margin before starting a line.
how to enable bi-directional printing.here's how:
  1. -click on start
  2. -click on printers and faxes (control panel->printers and faxes)
  3. -right-click on Dell Photo All in One Printer 964 All-In-One icon
  4. - click on properties
  5. -click on ports tab
  6. -down at the bottom there's a small box before bi-directional support
  7. -tick the box to enable it then click apply,ok
  8. -try printing again

note: in vista , printers and faxes is printers.in win 7 ,it's devices and printers.
and properties in win 7 is printer properties

I need to scan a signed letter and send it through email to someone......put the signed copy into the printer and hit scan which it did but now what............how do I get it to be part of an email?? ...

1 Turn on your computer and printer, and make sure they are connected.
2 Load your original document.
3 Click Start >> All Programs >> Dell Printers >> Dell Photo AIO Printer 964 >> Dell All-In-One Center.
4 Click Preview

You should now see a preview of your scanned document.

Adjust the dotted lines if they are not completely around your document.
There is a 'Send scanned image to:' option -

You can save the document to your desktop.

Now go into your mail program and when in the body of the email, use your programs features to attach the scanned file document to your email (you did not specify the email program you use, so this is just a general mention of attaching the file to your email).

Is there a fix for the compatiblity issue of the Dell AIO 964 and Dell Studio (64 bit) laptop?

From the manufacturer's web-site:

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=2684&l=en&s=pub&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=&SystemID=PRN_ALL_A960

(for the 'AIO 960', not your 'AIO 964' model), there currently is no "64-bit" drivers. Will the 32-bit driver work?????

I could not find ANY information about the '964' printer.

My Dell Photo 964 All-In-One won't receive faxes, but can send them just fine. All other features are alright. Spoke to Vonage (our phone service) for 2 hours troubleshooting and sending test faxes, and it...

First check a couple of obvious things:
Sometimes the presence or absence of a (DSL) filter on the line can affect fax reception.
Also check to make sure you have not enabled Fax Blocking.

Otherwise, I can only offer some information HP provides for support of VoIP fax setups, available by clicking here., and hardware setup options available here. Whether it is even remotely useful in your situation you'll have to judge.
You know there is also a Dell Forum where users
can pose questions and exchange answers. Have you checked to see if there are solutions posted there? Dell Forum 964fax error
I'm afraid I am not familiar with that particular machine or Vonage...sorry I couldn't offer anything more...

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take a moment to kindly rate this post....thanks!
