Can anyone help me? I have a Maytag Atlantis that my parents just gave me and my wife. Unfortunately, they accidently removed the model number sticker in the door area. I need to buy a new timer but no one can find which timer to get without the model number. Via the internet, I think I narrowed it down to either the MDE7400AYQ or the MDE7400AYW....but they both look identical to me. Can anyone tell me what the difference between the two is so I can go get the part?

I was having the same problem until I figured out that you can remove the front part of the knob by gently prying the silver/gray cover away from the rubber ring part of the knob. Once you remove the front part the rest of the knob can be removed.

Diagnosing was not a problem for me, but I could not find instruction to remove the knob on my Maytag Model LAT8106aae. Most instructions are from behind the contro panel. I was looking in the wrong place! Once I reoved the gray rubber ring, everything else was easy. Thanks for the solution.

After you gain acess inside the control panel, youll see the back of timer( there should be a small black shaft in the middle), with a small screw driver you can hold the very bottom of the shaft and pull it down(it pushes a small lock up the shaft and locks the knob in place) a little tinkering will get itafter the shaft is unlocked knob can be removed after replacing remomber to push "locktab" back or knob will fall right off

It unscrews or if it is a newer model, remove the console so you can tip it forward. You will see a (usually black or white) pin in the center of the timer, pull it out about and inch and then remove the knob from the front by pulling it off the timer shaft. Check you new timer and make sure it comes with one. So did some did not. Good luck.

The Timer Knob on my Maytag Dryer does not move. The drying just goes on and on unless I notice and stop the dryer.

While the dryer is turning slowly advance the timer knob to the end of the cycle. The dryer should stop. It sounds as if the timer motor has died or is not being powered for some reason and is not advancing the timer.

Replacing timer switch

If you are replacing the timer, after you unplug it, first pop the plastic cap off the knob of the timer. Underneath you will find a small clip on the timer shaft that holds the knob on and makes it imposible to get the timer out without daming the know. Use a small flat head screwdriver to slide the clip to the side. Now you can remove the rest of the knob and the screws holding the timer in place. Next remove the screws along the top of the console. Push forward on the bottom of the console while gently pulling the top towards you. You will now see your timer laying there. Release the catch on the connector that holds all of the wirse to the timer. Reverse the process for instalation.

Removing Timer knob on Kenmore Electric dryer

Normally, to remove the timer knob, simply push in on the timer knob and turn the knob counter clockwise. it should unscrew itself. If it does not, the shaft inside the timer has broken and the shaft simply free wheels so then you need to take a needle nose pliers to hold the shaft and then you can turn the knob or pull it off
