Re: universal remote for dmr-ez47v
If you're checking online retailers, you may be able to get the remote directly from Panasonic Parts. If you have a manual, look under the accessory list and get the part number - if you don't have the manual, the part number is EUR7659T80 and the phone number to the parts dept is 1-800-332-5368. If you purchased the unit as an open box, you would be charged for the remote as it's not covered by warranty. If it was a new unit and you're within 30 days of purchase, they can process a remote exchange if you contact the customer call center at 800-211-7262.

To reset the recorder to factory defaults as if it was just removed from the box - leave the recorder on then press and hold the channel up and down buttons at the same time until it says "Bye" on the display. When it shows the clock it is off - wait a few seconds then turn it back on - you should see the initial setup asking you to choose a language.
Note: You may have to flip down part of the front panel to reveal the channel buttons.
I assume this combo unit has basic front panel buttons (behind the right-hand door - where the copy button is) - there should be a drive select (VHS or DVD) button stop play record. I strongly advise if you really need a remote for this model, particularly when it comes to menu/setup options, that you search various online and similar stores for one.
The cost will depend where you go and who you deal with - and if the remote is available (you can always ask Panasonic about a remote for a DMR-EZ48V even though your model may be a DMR-EZ47V - they both use the same remote (N20AYB000136 or equivalent number); they can probably tell you how to order one through them, the price, etc.
A universal remote may work, but with limited functions. If the combo unit works in general, you should not have too much trouble obtaining a replacement remote (just keep in mind the model above).
The remote may cost just over $100 but remember, this is only if you want full control of your combo unit.
If DVD disc was purchase in New Zealand the region code is Region 4, if the Panasonic unit was purchase in the US it only plays DVD disc with region code "Region 1 and ALL". This information is found on the back label of the disc that has the code on the globe.
There is an unlock code for this player.
It involves purchasing a One for all universal remote control.
Let me know when you,ve purchased the universal remote.
And i,ll instruct you on how to make the player region-free or multi-region.
