Well! Based on my experiences, the deleted data on a hard drive or memory card is not immediately erased as we normally think. It is only the space used to save the data that has been marked as "free space" so that the new data would be easily written here. So, the previous deleted data is still there.

Hence, one always has big chances to restore the deleted data back by using a data recovery programs before it is overwritten by anything new.

So, simply choose a third party data recovery application for your drive.

I know there is a free drive data recovery program that has ever completely restored all the inaccessible data of my friend from a mistakenly formatted drive. He says it really works well on his drive. You could also give it a shot.

PS: I hope you could be more careful about your data and learn to make backups of everything important.

These two articles recover WD Mac and restore Trash Mac may worth for a glance. But the first thing you need to take care is do not put more items to your WD drive where those stuff originally located. Best regards.

No as I have the new WD My Book World Edition 1T drive and have no problems mapping it after running the firmware update, but had to pull the power cord before starting the update because it kept saying the drive was in use, but was not.

WHOOPS!!!!!!!!!!!! Bad WD... they do not respond with common sense easy to fix answers. I can only write to the drive sometimes, but cannot delete from the drive at all. Then the next day sometimes all of the data is gone from the drive. It is just insane that a big company like WD cannot pull their Head out there *** and respond to basic BIG Problems like this with their equipment.

Good luck and best wishes to ALL! I will probably return it and try a different brand... I do IT for a living... I do not know it all, but I do know they are out of their tree for not addressing a lot of common issues on their web-site or via tech support.

I have reset, modified security settings, rebooted, etc... but no luck so far.

I have a basic intel motherboard, Q9450 CPU, 4GB of ram, internal raptor drive, Gigabit NIC connected to a Linksys Gigabit Wi-fi router via cat5 cable to the switch, and the Famous Piece Of **** WD My Book World Edition 1T drive connected to the switch via cat5 cable.

O yeah, when I first connected the best transfer was 500Kbps... After the firmware updated it is up to 6MBps... Huge inprovement if I could reliably write the data, delete the data, save files, etc. and know that the data will still be there tomorrow.

Good Luck and Best Wishes to All!

PROBLEMS WITH MY WD BOOK

Hi, This post might be of some help/idea... http://www.fixya.com/support/t191153-device_recognized The only difference is your model uses Western Digital and not Seagate. Yours can still be recognized but Windows consider it non-formatted. First try a data recovery software and another storage medium where you can copy the files if you're successful in the recovery. Good luck and kind regards.
