REMOVING HEAD FROM A MAJESTIC TRIPOD

Hello Experts.

Attached is a photo of my Majestic tripod legs MODEL 2501 and the gearhead whose number I can't recall - all I can make out on the head is ?000E. I can easily send more photos if that would help.

I can't remember how to remove the head. The set screws are loosened but it's not budging.

Can you help? Thanks for any info! Best, Rich

Still can't get it to budge. I tried to tap the underside lightly with a leather mallet but no movement at all.

The set screws in the photo were just barely sitting in the holes, so they weren't hindering the movement right from the start.

This is bizarre. I know I had it off many years ago, and your wd40 answer seemed like a great idea, but no luck. Other suggestions?

    Best, Rich

I would remove the set screws and spay a little wd40 in the holes, it should just slide up and off then. Probably just tight from being on there for a long time.

Actually that silver vertical screw is the projected screw that needs to be removed to get the head off.

What about that silver vertical projected screw? From what I've read it is holding the head to the tripod.

Can I get parts for a damaged tripod

Contact the importer or manufacturer, telling them the exact make and model number, plus a full description of the problem, with photos if possible. Alternatively, take it to a nearby camera shop or repair facility.

It may be possible. Unscrew this bit from the legs and see if you can reattach it to the rest of the head. Otherwise you will need to purchase a new head, but the legs will be fine.

Is there a Carbon fibre small compact with splitter

Carolyn
-If you are looking for a compact light weight (CF) tripod for video...., that is going to be...., stable & durable (for use with a smaller video camera or a DSLR) & with a mid-level spreader...., I have some bad news for you. They do not exist!!!!!
-You can get a number of tripods that meet some of these requirements..., but not all!!!
-No fear....., it is still possible to get a tripod that is small, light, repairable and with a higher weight capacity and better durability than either of the Manfrotto tripods you mentioned..., but they will not use a mid-level spreader!!!

-Questions for you...., the manfrotto #055CXB has a column that terminates with a flat plate & a 3/8-16" thread. The Manfrotto # MTV502AM tripod has a 75mm bowl mount. Do you use a video head with a flat base or with a 'bowl'?
-If your head has a flat base consider looking at CF tripods from brands such as Sirui (#N2204 or #N3204)..., great value tripod from China..., or products from Gitzo or Really Right Stuff...., (superior products...., and your grandkids will be using them..., but pricey)!!!!
-If your head uses a 75mm bowl mount get the Miller #1501 tripod...., stupidly strong and well supported.

-Bottom line..., with light to mid weight cameras, if you go with a good quality spreaderless tripod that uses 'rotary locks' vs 'quick release' locks...., the leg mechanisms are so superior that you will find that you will get less flex than most tripods with spreaders. They will also be smaller, lighter and allow you to shoot far closer to the ground!!!

Go t a shop that has a good selection of quality tripods and test for leg twist..., you will be converted!!! (note: to test this leg flex..., extend the legs & grab hold of (2) of the tubes near the top 'crown' and then try to move the legs to the left then right...., many will exibit significant flex at the joints!!!!

Customer service for giottos

To order service parts contact the importer:
Canada-JCL Sales (Richmond B.C.)
USA-HP Marketing (Pine Brook NJ)
-Inform them of the tripod model and possibly provide them with photos of where the spreader arms attach to both the legs & the center column...., you may require additional parts.

Hi, I have just bought the 190CXPRO3 carbon fibre

Little confused here. Is the head the part you want to detach from an older set of legs? Do you want to remove center post from new legs or old legs. The base plate remains on the center post/ Aftre removing 3 set screws, and you want to remove the head from the baseplate and it will not turn, grap slip joint pliers or a pipe wrench, wrap the jaws with cloth ( to prevent marring of head or legs) and while holding head with wrench, have someone else turn legs

I can't get the ball head off my tripod. I've loosened the set screws at the base, but the head won't budge.

You can try this:
spray lubricant between ball head and base, wrap the ball head with a heavy rag( to help prevent scratches, use a pip wrench on ball head while someone else holds legs ( or also wrap legs in cloth and hold in vise). DO THIS AT OWN RISK

I have a Manfrotto 058 tripod. One leg wont hold weight & retracts under load. This model uses a quick release lever at the top of the leg to control the telescopic height of each leg. How can I repair...

If you notice, the legs locks are attached to bothe the upper part of the leg and the sloghtly smaller diameter lower. Take a socket (8mm I believe) and tighten the lower 2 nuts to the bottom of the leg lock.
