Question about Whirlpool Gold White-on-White 21.9 cu. ft. Conquest Side-By-Side Refrigerator with Ice and Water GD2SHAXLQ Side by Side Refrigerator
The light is out, on fridge side not freezer, makes wierd noise when you open fridge, but is keeping food cold, and the tempeture gadges arent lighting up
Interesting, might light on the refrigerator side went out too. There touchy in that if I put the bulb in all the way it will knock the temperature control lights out too. I've discovered the 2 bulbs behind the second crisper in my Whirlpool conquest were blown, replaced them and still none of the 3 refrigerator lights comes back on. Still looking for solutions.
Had the identical symptoms with my Whirlpool Gold GS6SHEXNB00 side-by-side refrigerator. Had a technician come on site, indicated it was the "circuit board/ timer" (Whirlpool part # 1394052). Board is accessible from behind fridge (lower left side in a white plastic housing to left of compressor).
Swapped the board out (noticed a scorched circuit on the old circuit board). Lightbulbs now work, temperature readouts also good to go.

Mine started doing the same thing this the day before yesterday. The lightbulb on the fridge side went out and it started making the noise everytime we open it. It was purchased in 2004 (5/04 manufacture date) model # GD5RHAXNT00 and is a Whirlpool Gold. Had to have the ice maker replaced in March. (it went out last year)

Does this qualify as normal "wear and tear?" I've had my conquest gold for less than 4 years and the board's gone out and we have a repair man at our house that whirlpool recommended quoting us over $300 to repair it! unreal...i could imagine if it was something that the consumer used every day but a RELAY BOARD?! what's the life expectancy on a RELAY BOARD for whirlpool? less than 4 years? chances are i won't be purchasing whirlpool anymore! anyone have any ideas?

Your issue sounds the same as mine. I have a Whirlpool Gold side-by-side. The fridge lights don't work.
Appliance Repair guy came today - after testing everything came to the conclusion it's the electric "computer board" that controls everything. Tech says once replaced, everything will be fine.

Had this same problem - started last night. I found about 60 postings on diychatroom.com about the same problem. What seems to be happening is that the control circuit board gets a trace blown due to a bulb burning out. This is a faulty design, and whirlpool should be paying for the replacement. The control board is around $110.

It is the main board which is located at the back... on the left if looking from behind the fridge freezer. It is at the bottom of the fridge side screwed to the side in a cream plastic cover. Replace it and the problem should go away.

If you pull out the refrig, screwed to the cabinet, along side the compressor is a circuit board inside a white housing, theres beena short on that board and will need replacing.

Buy this board and change it yourself or get help SAFETY FIRST unplug the REFRIDGERATOR before working with any boards or electrical!!!
It is located in the back of your fridge on the bottom left side when facing the back of the fridge. Unscrew the white box, open the box, remove the board connector and board. (There is a clip that pushes to one side). Insert the new board. Pluhg in the fridge. Enjoy the light and temp LEDs.
BTW I offered 29.99 and it was accepted.
