Question about Dyson DC14 Animal Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum

3 Answers

Poor suction absolutely loved the machine when I first got it. I have dogs so it is getting a work out. however, the suction isn't as great as when I first got it. I have cleaned the washable filter and empty the cylinder after every vacuum. When I use the hose, the suction just isn't there. anything else I can do?

    poor suction!

Suction also weakened since first new in January 2007. Sears repaired it once in March 08, something blocked. Manual has very little info regarding self-checking for blockages. Removed and cleaned obvious filter, no improvement. Taking it back in to Sears now for warranty repair. I am very disappointed with this very expensive machine. My old Hoover lasted 15 years, no repairs, and my daughter still uses it.

I have had my dyson for a little over two years. We have a few cats and loved the product. Recently our dyson has not been working as well as it had in the past. When we use the attachments, the suction just isn't there.

OK- I had the same problem and I took it to sears for service, It still wasn't great. So I proceeded to pull out all of the filters, including the internal filter that is not easy to get get to. I washed it and air dried it, put it all back together and My vacuum was as good as new again. This filter takes at least 2 screwdrivers to get to. Take caution not to break the plastic when removing. It's directly under the canister and nowhere in the manual does it say it's to be cleaned. ( ????? ) It solved the problem. Hope this helps everyone.

Check for blockages in the pipework, particularly around the bends.

Usually the bend sections are removable for inspection.

If there are no blockages, make sure all the removable pipes are fitted correctly, so they are sealed.

Also check the slider control on the hose which lets in air to reduce suction.

What causes poor suction on model ud40270? It seems like a lot of air is blowing out the front where the filter is.

Susan:

First, remove and clean or replace all of the filters in the machine. There is an inlet filter above the dirt collection cup. and an exhaust filter at the front lower part of the top of the vacuum head. If either filter is clogged, you'll get poor suction. Also lay the machine on it's back, and check the tunnel where the dirt goes up into the machine (behind the beater bar) to see that it is not clogged.

Dyson has no suction and hose doesn't work

Hi Brenna, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC17 Absolute. I can see that you've already checked for blockages, but the issues you've describe do strongly suggest that there's a blockage somewhere in the machine. You might want to follow the steps shown in our online Support guide, as this should help you locate any obstructions you may have missed:

The alarm on my machine keeps sounding; even though I have cleaned the filters, emptied the dust bucket, its driving me mad as I rely so much on this machine; with dogs, cats and children and a farm h

Please check the suction on your machine? Is it strong? It may be that you have a clog, particularly since you have dogs, cats and children!

It suction is fine, have you checked the rotating roller brush? If the point of pickup is poor on your floors, you may need to check your belt. You may have picked up a large object that has affected the tension in the belt. Why does my filter collect so much dog hair and decreases the suction of the machine. I clean and change (alternate) filters everytime I vacumn, that isn't normal, is it? It seems like I have a seal or...

You obviously have a pet and it's good to see your machine is doing it's job. The only reason you could lose suction while collecting pet hair is due to the pet hair being a solid mass and air not been able to flow through the filters.( must be a lot of hair). Suction loss is only when the particles passing through your machine are dense therefore it will reduce suction and airflow . Very common on vacuum cleaners. Do not worry too much . Also check to see if you have Amy cracks in the seal between the drum and the vacuum cleaner itself

My Dyson absolute vaccume has no suction. I have cleaned the filters, visually checked all of the hoses. there is no suction from the floor brush or the wand.

Check the ducting that goes from the floor pick-up into the machine, fluff etc often clogs the elbow. Check the pipe that plugs into the floor pick-up as well, it could be clogged further up.

Not picking up fuzz

I've had a similar problem with my DC07 Animal, although there WAS suction and the machine seemed in otherwise good condition, the vacuum seemed to be working normally, yet very little was vacuumed up. I would go over and over sections of carpet and get very little debris in the container. In my case, the cleaning brush roller bar was competely covered in debris (hair, dirt, string, stuffing from our chewed up dog toys, etc.). I removed the bottom cover and manually removed all this debris from the cleaner/brush roller, reattached the cover and it worked like new with great suction.

No suction on the bissell lift-off revolution

I had the same problem. In the water resevoir, there is a red flap that allows the dirty water to flow back into the water tank. Lift that flap up and there is a small red screen. Pop that screen out with a butter knife and rinse it out. I have dogs in my house and that screen was blocked by dog hair. I cleaned the screen, popped it back in and it works like a new machine. You would think Bissell would address this roblem on their web site but they don't.

Hoover Agility, No Suction!!!

I had the same problem. Lower the handle to the floor and check the black spiral suction hose at the neck of the machine. The lower hose in my Hoover split. Check and see if yours has done the same thing. If so, the lower suction hose will have to be replaced. Hope this helps.
