Question about Brother MFC 420CN All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Mfc-420cn paper tray

I have a used unit I am trying to determine if it is complete. It has a black/blue paper tray that slides into the bottom of the slot and in the center of it there is a sliding section which pulls backwards and also a smaller section which lifts. Is this all that should be in that slot? If so, the unit is complete in this respect.
The reason for doubt is the only pictures available (suchas on this web page) show something white inside the slot on either side. This could be the paper itself with the smaller flap folded over it? OR a missing section.
I can't test the machine until I replace the ink cartridges. Thanks if you can clear this up for me. Nice looking machine.

Thank You. Tonight I replaced the yellow ink after which it asked for cyan and magenta (I was not too suprised) and using supplies from the Dollar Store i threw in black which it didn't ask for.

After which I was able to make excellent copies in black/white and in color.

However, you are right about the lifting section. I had it positioned over the blank paper but the prints ended up under it as well. I have not yet studied the manual for an answer. Next time I will check out machines other capabilities. Thanx again.

Your paper tray is complete. The lifting section doesn't look as if it fits properly, but it's only there to keep finished prints from getting pulled back in with plain paper.

Show me how to put the paper in my brother mfc-240 c printer

Pull out the bottom tray that holds the paper. You have some blue pieces to adjust to the size of the paper. To change the dimension the blue(?) pieces have to be pressed between thumb and index fingers and you slide them apart to adjust.

I have a Brother MFC 420cn and it keep saying paper jam and there is no paper jam help please

->Clear any loose paper from the paper tray. This will help you locate the jam. You will find it either in front, near the paper tray, or in the rear.

->To clear a paper jam near the paper tray, grip the paper and pull it firmly but gently from the printer. If you find a stack of papers jammed, grab from the middle of the stack and pull.

->For a rear jam, remove the back of the printer. When you find a free edge on the paper, grip it firmly and pull it out.

->Replace the back cover. Press the "Resume" button or turn off the printer, and then turn it back on. Your settings should reset.

->Try printing another document

My Brother MFC-7420 Printer always prints black lines and splotches down the left side of my paper. This happens whether I'm scanning or printing from my PC. When I looked at my drum, it appears a

If you are seeing vertical streaks/black lines your primary corona wire is dirty and or the fax scanner may be dirty.
1)To clean the corona wire you take the drum unit and toner cartridge and place it on disposable paper to avoid spilling.
2) Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by sliding the blue tab from right to left several times.
3) Return the blue tab and snap it into the home position.
4) Reinstall the drum unit and toner cartridge.
5) Close the front cover.
Caution: if you do not return the blue tab to the home position it may repeat the black lines.

Does the Brother MFC-440 CN have a roller or drum? We are getting lines on our copies when we copy by inputting the papers in the feed tray.

The first thing I would try is to fix the corona wire. Here is a link to Brother's website outlining the process (clean corona wire).
What you need to do is pull out the drum and look for a blue tab on the top of the cartridge. Slide that tab back and forth along the wire and see if that clears things up.
I have had some luck cleaning the drum when I get black streaks but I have also hear this can be dangerous and make the problem worse.

Brother MFC-620CN print head clogged

Open up amd release blue stay at bottom by pressing edges inward and pulling slightly forward. Remove the 4 screws, 2 small plastic covers and the earth screw. Pull out the ribbon connector near the USB plug. Unplug the 2 white and one red connectors, noting how the cables fit in. Fully open the lid and pop the scanner part off. Remove all the ink cartridges. Now using a flat screwdriver unclip the top of the base all the way round and lift off. The print head is now accessible. Rotate the white paper feed cogs to release the print head. Slide it all the way to the right and remove it by tilting the back edge upwards. You mow have access to the print head!!!!

Printer has unable to clean message

When trying to use your Brother machine you get the message "Unable to _____". The blank may be the word Change, Print, Scan or Clean and these words may vary from model to model.
This message is a general message and will appear for different reasons. It often indicates a paper jam or a mechanical issue. Complete the following to determine the possible issue.
Check for foreign objects, such as a clip or ripped paper, inside the machine.
Open the scanner cover by pulling up on the lower right corner of the cover. Look inside the machine and remove any foreign objects. If you see jammed paper or another item inside this area, gently pull it out and then close the scanner cover securely.
Then with the power on, pull the plug from the wall for several minutes. The plug it in and power the unit up.
Here is the manual:
