Re: Typewriter Brother EM-530
You have to position the carrier to where you want the margin using the space bar or backspace key. Once you get to the desired position you must press either the left or right margin button depending on which one you want to set. You may have to use the code button together with the margin button. On most electronic typewriters you change the margins by pressing the code button and holding down the press r margin or l margin on the key board. You want the carrier to be where you want the margin set. To set margins beyond the right or left margin move the carrier to the margin and press margin release to go past the margin. Then press code left or right margin.
Usually, with most of these machines, you move the print unit to the margin and then press Margin Release. This will allow you to move the print unit along to where you want to set the margin. Then you press the Set Margin key.
Is Margin Release on it's own separate button on the EM-530? If so, then to move beyond a margin:
Use Return or Tab to go to the left or right existing margin.
Touch Margin Release.
Use the Backspace or Space bar to go beyond the margin in question.
If you want to set a new margin, then go to the location you want to have it and touch the Left margin or Right Margin button.
Some models may require the CODE key to access one or more of these functions. If the function name is not printed on the top of the key, but on its front or on the surrounding plastic above the button, press and hold the CODE key while touching that button (just as you hold the Shift key to type capitals). The CODE key might possibly have a different name; chances are it's color will match the functions it works with.
You must first position the carrier to where you would like the margin to be set, so if you want the margin to the right of where it already exists you must to the the margin and Depless the margin release function (M rel). If the typewriter is in line-by-line mode you may have to select the TYPE mode , before you do this. When the carrier is position to the place you want depress the R margin set function (CODE plus M left)
