Black line no color

I have a black line running down the center of my plasma screen. Picture has no color. This is when I am using DVD player, satellite reciever, etc. There is no problem when I use antenna through coax input. At one time S video and component input were hooked up at same time, if that helps.

    That's about it.
    It is out of warranty.

  • lawnrngr Mar 04, 2008

I'm not totally inept. My forte is mechanic, but I've been inside quite a few computers and DVD players and such. This is not my main TV. So, if I mess up I'm not going to blame anyone but myself.

I have the service manual and parts list. Don't see a system board listed. Would it possibly be called something else? I haven't opened the back of the set yet. I'm still at work.

  • lawnrngr Mar 05, 2008

I found a video card (not available until August). I also found Formatter PWB, Audio PWB, Power PWB, ZSUS PWB (my guess), and YSUS PWB.

  • lawnrngr Mar 05, 2008

I did take it to a so called qualified technician last fall. They wanted to replace the whole plasma screen for $1,000. If I can get a picture off my antenna, I don't need a new screen, right? I put the TV in storage and bought a new one. Now I'd like to use this set in my den, if I can fix it. I will replace the video card when I can find one. If that doesn't work, I'd really like to know which board controls the picture. Can you answer me that?

I have a Hitachi 42EDT41. Almost got my picture problem nailed down with one of your other Fixya experts. However he couldn't answer this question. What do these powerboards control?
    Joint PWB
    Formatter PWB
    YSUS PWB
    ZSUS PWB

Thanks. This is the second DVD player I tried. I thought the problem was my new player, so I returned it to the store and bought a different one, different brand. No difference.

Well one reason your problem is difficult is there are many different problems with Black lines in picture. I know what all the Y SUS and Z SUS top and bottom boards are. This company has a Pixel form to fill out, if I were you this would be the way to go. But be cautioned, when this form is filled out correctly it tells the company if the problem is a warranty problem or non warranty problem. First I would need to see a picture of this set and what it's doing! Then I could tell you whether they would say warranty from Panel Defect.

    hey hey..
    just a minute..

i dint read all the posts carefully..

i also have experienced the same problem before 2 months in my house

  • dewan nafees ahmed Mar 05, 2008

its most probably a bad logic buffer board, if its in the middle then its your F board.. this is for the black line problem

and for the NO color problem i think your DVD signals are not able to decode with your Tv.. try it with another DVD player from your neighbor..

    thank you

    good luck

else identify an capacitor on the PDP board that had come unsoldered, so u get it fixed that, and the black line will go away

sounds a lot like you are having some video control board issues..in warranty still?

    hmmmmm..well..then...what's your technical skill level?

  • Patrick Michaels
    Patrick Michaels Mar 04, 2008

ok..well..then, you will most likely need to peel the back off(that will take a bit) keep the screws in separate bags, marked, since they are not all the same.

    check all the connections first..

then fire it back up and see if it's still the case, then you'll need to procure a replacement system board, which may be available from third party sources online.

I really believe you'll be better off with a qualified service technician

making a diagnosis from an online chat is problematic, as you might anticipate. I hope you find the combination of information you seek.

    thanks for using Fixya

When playing DVD on panasonic plasma TV, the color is black and white

Consult the owner manual for the player (and or try it on another set) as many players have settings that can cause B&W or a single color display for the image.

Tv is about 4 years old. Suddenly developed two

Your plasma screen is made up of 1080 verticle lines and now a few of these lines are not working. This is the screen itself and needs replacing.

1" black vertical line in center of screen. Sony Plasma.

NOT DEFECTIVE!!!
There are 4 or 5 ribbon cables on the bottom or on one side, they control part of the plasma screen. Check the ribbon cable2_bing.gifnear the black lines. Unplug the ribbon cable and look for black chipson the underside of it, I think they say 100 on them, you need toresolder both ends on each chip. Should fix the black line issue.

The picture is good but i noticed color sprinkle red and green

that could be a high voltage that feeds the panel, that can be adjusted (that voltage need to be verified first)
Also there is a couple of boards that may be creating the problem (X & Y main boards )

Black bar

On a non H.Def plasma, there is a PCB that runs along the bottom of the screen that is attached to the screen by a several brown/gold colored flat ribbon cables. I've seen where this ribbon cable is not seated properly in the jack. The ribbon cables are generally responsible for that section of the screen. Next possibility is the PCB itself is defective.
Not to scare you, but the plasma screen itself is a possible suspect.
