2001 Saturn radio reset after battery change

My girlfriend had the battery replaced in her 2001 Saturn L100 a few months ago. The factory radio has not worked ever since. I verified that it is getting power, as the the clock works and the display lights up etc. I read & followed all the steps in the owners manual and I get an ERR1 message on the display. She has not set the theft deterrent feature on the radio. She said it happened once before when she went for service a couple years ago. She said she took it back to the shop and they did something quick to get it working again.

The radio won't work. It just displays the time.

  • mikes73z Mar 03, 2008

No, not working now. I was looking for instruction on the procedure to get it working after a power failure.

  • mikes73z Mar 03, 2008

I saw this solution on the Saturn site earlier today. I'm not sure it will work because I'm getting an "ERR1" on the display, not "LOC" or "INOP" an in the instructions.

That err1 thing was really bugging me. She bought the car used, so it's entirely possible the original owner keyed in a code that we don't know anything about. I'll give these procedures a try this weekend when I see her again.
Thanks for the good information and your help!

    Mike

The err1 indicates that the theft deterent lock is active, try the procedure to see of you can get a code returned, if it does return a code then call the 1-800 number and get an unlock code, enter the code and your radio should work.

the dash radio module has a small button ,
by pressing the tuner panel will pop out...showing some connector leads....

try to clean the dirt off that and replace it again....
also check if the connector is properly plugged in...it may also due to loose connections..

If there is no reset switch, you can reset the radio by disconnecting the battery for a few seconds.

Don't worry - you'll get 3 more chances in a couple days or so. If that is the factory radio and you know where the car was purchased, you can call the dealership and give them whatever info they ask for (your name, vehicle VIN, etc.) They should be able to look up the reset code in their computer system and give it to you. If it is the factory radio but you don't know what dealership sold it, you must remove the radio and look at the serial number. They may require you to bring the car in to the service department to do this and charge you a hundred bucks. If that's the case, think about upgrading.

I bought the car at Carmax and there was no manual for the radio. Now after the car was worked on and the battery shut off, the radio is asking for a password?? It's a Kenwood KDC- MP 4032

http://www.kenwoodusa.com/search?q=KDC- MP 4032

this is a link to the manual.. your going to find that you cannot reset it or do any thing else to it. have you tried entering the common passwords. also how long ago did you purchase at carmax they will make it right 4 you they should be able to replace it with the factory radio. if its under 30 days you can return your car for a full refund.
