The lens is jammed.
This is a result of damage to the gear in the motor asssembly.
The gear teeth have been broken off & as a result the gears that drive the opening& closing of the barrel dont mesh together resulting in the jam and your 4 beeps!!
If your interested in selling it to me let me know.

As the user before said. The lens has stuck, the reason is that one of the gear has some missing teeth.
Probably the gear just next the the lens. that gear is in plastic but the rest of the gears is in metal.
This problem has been fixed in newer models of samsung cameras. If you want to change the gear its easy. The camera has screws, 2 at each side, one on the bottom and one under the flash. Remove those and the front will come loose.
on the top left of the lens you see 2 screws. one on the top and one e little bit lower to the left. unscrew those 2 and then you can easily and carefully open it and there you see the gears. The problem is to find a new gear to buy, i got 2 new gears from a samsung service firm in my neighborhood. Change the part that has been damaged and your camera is back in working order.
I do not take any responsibilty if the fix doesnt work. It worked for me when my lens stuck. The best solution is always a proffesional.

I had the same problem actually... for some reason i decide to give the lens a gentle twist anti-clockwise being that it kinda projects out ,,, it gave a slight pop sound like it got unjammed,.. and surprizingly it started working again ... dont know if it will work for any of u guys... but maybe you can give it a try,,,, at your on risk of course,,, but to be honest dont think it can get any worst if your lens is already jammed,,,,

Camera Stuck with lens out. Beeps

I dropped the camera on the table a couple of times, twisted the front of it. Suddenly the lens retracted into the camera, the beeping quit, and now I can take pictures again. The Samsung website is horrible.

Lens is stuck open - will not close. still takes pictures

you must have dropped your camera where it caused damage in internal part. when cameras are dropped wires and screws inside loosen which will cause trouble. Have it checked by a pro. you might destroy it more if you try to fix it yourself. Thanks.

Problem with camera

The lens is sticking, I had same problem, thought it was the battery. It kept doing 4 beeps and turning off, but the lens would be out.

Lightly lube the lens area with WD 40 worked, be real careful and don't use alot of it. My camera works fine now. I actually read the solution someone on this site, can't find it now, but wanted to post that it worked for me. I love the camera and was bummed it wasn't working. Works great now!

Not sure about the battery... that could be it and I haven't tried switching it out for a new one yet, but in the meantime I am getting around this problem my grabbing the lens with my fingers and "helping" come all the way out... just give it a little pull, a little encouragement and it will come all the way out... but the trick is that you have to do it right after you try to turn it on and before you get the beeps...

So if your lens is stuck out right now and the camera is powered off, then turn the camera on and then pull the lens out before you get the beeps... once you give it a little tug, the mechanics should take over and it will extend all the way... the LCD will come on and you'll be good to go...

Like I said, I'm having this problem too and my girlfriend suggested we change the battery... I guess that's possible, that the battery is not holding enough of a charge to push the lens all the way out... I'll investigate how much a new battery costs and then determine if I think its worth a try...

get a butter knife or any thin object like that and use it to push out the lens and turning it on at the same time you will hear a clicking noise which is normal once completely out, use your hand with a gentle but firm presure move it form left to right
and then hopefully it should work after that
