After downloading every possible driver and tweaking every possible adjustment I have come to this conclusion: There is NO built-in microphone on the eMachines D725! Oh, the Device Manager will show it, all right but I assure you, there is no built-in device that can pick up sound on that laptop model. You'd think that a laptop, albeit a budget on, with a built-in webcam should also have an accompanying built-in mic for messaging and calls, but it doesn't. The mic may have fallen by the wayside during the cost-cutting sessions, along with the 3rd and 4th USB ports. Your only options are to connect an external microphone or to trade the D725 for a real laptop.
Go to the control panel and choose sounds and audio devices, then look for the default device under sound recording and make sure your record device is the same model as your sound device and that it says INPUT. Another problem occurs if you right click your little sound/audio icon on the taskbar and choose open volume control then left click. Do that now and choose, options, then properties. Now on mixer device, choose one that says input. The white window on the bottom of that panel will show you several devices, check mark them all and click ok. Now manually select MIC as your default sound input please....my emachines d725's microphone isn't - 2_bing.gif src="/uploads/images/2_bing.gif" alt="2_bing.gif" class="h_mi" /> and close then try again.
Please....my emachines d725's microphone isn't working..help please!
Select CONTROL PANEL
Select SYSTEM
Select SOUNDS AND AUDIO DEVICES
First thing you do is check the box that says "Place volume icon in the taskbar"
then click the APPLY and then the OK boxes to close it out
Then right click the VOLUME icon in lower right corner tasktray and select OPEN VOLUME CONTROL
Then click on OPTIONS in top left corner of the window that just opened up, and select PROPERTIES
In the window that opens up, make sure that MICROPHONE is CHECKED where it says "Show the following volume controls"
Now the window may have changed so it shows your microphone settings
In the section for your microphone, try adjusting the volume, make sure that the MUTE box is NOT CHECKED, and try again.
Hope this helps
