Terca M1 Loose Display Hinge

Hi - I have a Tecra M1 that has a loose display hinge. Does anyone have instructions or a diagram of how to tighten the hinge?

The left hinge sticks out from behind the little loudspeaker but the display still works fine. I just hope the thing does not fall off. I have phoned Toshiba and they say a spare part would cost £180. I used some advice from webpages and started disassembling the laptop. However, these help pages do not have detailed instructions for M1, only for M2 and M3. These seem to be different and I did not get to the bottom of it. I am glad I managed to put everything together again without loss of functionality. I have 3 screws surplus ;-)

That is the very same issue that I have. It looks as though the bracket holding the panel to the chassis of the laptop has come off, not sure if broken or just slipped off through rough handling.

This is the same problem I'm having with my tecra m1 but when I disassembled it I found out the hinges aren't screwed down like my satellite model laptop, then some of my keypads don't work anymore.......

The hinge can't be repaired, but it can be replaced. It's feasible to do it yourself if you're tech savy. Just look online for guides that show you how to replace the hinge on any laptop and you should get an idea how to do the replacement step by step for this specific model. Most hinge mechanisms use the same system. I work for Computer Repair NYC and i have to fix this problem a lot, you can get the hinge on ebay.

My B120 display will change to all vertical lines. when I bend the screen area back a little, the display returns to normal.

Reseat the video cable connection under the keyboard, and tighten all the screws on the chassis that are related to the LCD hinges (LCD ground is thru the hinge and if screws come loose, the ground get weak.) also inspect the LCD cable where it goes thru the hinge cover assy, that is were you are likely to break a wire.

THE LID IS LOOSE AND THERE ARE NO SCREWS TO TIGHTEN ON THE HINGES

You do not need to replace the hinges, however your need to remove the font panels of the screen and laptop to remove the hinges. You will see that the pin that connects the top part of the hinge to the bottom part of the hinges has over time moved out of alignment. With pliers and a hammer manipulate the hinge pin so that it is now flush with the hinge itself. You will see that the hinge will then become tight. Then just reinstall the hinge. I just did this and I know it works.

I have a Tecra M2 S630 and was able to fix my left hinge by removing it and drilling out the rivet and replacing it with a 6-32x1/4 inch machine screw and a nut. Total cost was $4 for a package of nuts and screws from Radio Shack.
