Venting codes for a pro style Dacor stove top

We are remodeling our home in Carlsbad, Ca. 92009 and replacing the stove top with the above. We have windows above the cooktop and cabinet restraints. An appliance contractor suggested as an option that we don't need to install a vent of downdraft system, "since it wasn't a code requirement anymore" and that we open windows for cross ventilation.
Is is correct that there is are NO code requirements for this situation?
Thanks for your help.

I would suggest to call the city hall and ask them if that is a personal option or you need to have it install. Also is a personal choice if you decide to install it regardless of what the constructor says.
Some times these constructors guys are looking for an easy way out if they can.
Good Luck.

I would call a home inspector in your area, maybe someone at city hall would know. Here in Canada in my city one would check with city hall for building codes.

Here's a decent answer for you: CLICK

If I can find the code online I'll post it, but local building codes are usually difficult to get a hold of online.

No you still need for vent, you cannot automatically clear the smell of the food you cook on your kitchen by only using your window as an exhaust..

You can insist and suggest that you want a vent therefore it was your house, and your the one who will spend money for that.

Thanks,

    Here's why you need that:

If you don't have the space or desire to install a hood, downdraft ventilation system offers you the ability to clear your kitchen of smoke, steam, grease and heat. At the touch of a button, a Cook'n'Vent ventilator will telescope up from below the counter, rising up to a full 10 inches. When you're finished cooking, it will retract back down to fit flush with the countertop surface. Cook'n'Vent downdraft ventilation is great for island installations, where an unobstructed view is desirable. It can be integrated with most Thermador cooktops and 30" ranges.

If you are talking about a gap caused by the height of the stove, You can lower the height of the stove by adjusting the threaded leg posts on the bottom of the stove. A more difficult fix would be in raise the height of the countertop and cabinets by shimming the bottom of the cabinets.

If your gap is not a height issue, then you can experiment with some type of trim around the stove itself. Local granite dealers has an assortment of trims for issues like this.

I was able to find a number of trims for a back gap on my granite countertops and backsplash from my local European Marble and Granite.

How do i turn the outer ring on for a dacor stove top

Pushing the button for the element will turn on the inner element at level 5. Before adjusting the level (so while the level indicator is still blinking) press the little circle on the right side of the controls for that element. The circle should light up. Now press the UP control for that element, and the level indicator should stop blinking. Now the outer and inner elements are both heating up. Adjust temp level to desired setting.
