Having the same problem with our Cabrio washer.
The F1 error comes up with every load.
Contacted Whirlpool to schedule service.
The local service tech didn't even examine the washer when we told him that it was an F1 error and said that it would be $400 for the repair or $1000 for a new washer.
We were charged $75 for the call.
Very disappointed with Whirlpool!

I had the same F1 error code, and followed the phone number/advice on this site. I had an A&E tech come to my house 2 working days later, at my convenience to schedule, and he performed a diagnostic check which showed every code the washer had ever given.
He did NOT need to see the F1 code, he looked it up in the memory on the washer. (At first he tried to tell us that F1 didn't exist in his directory, except the other code he tried to tell us it was, 58 or something, just told him to see F1, so he gave in!)
He replaced the computer controller module, and told us since it was a replacement part it would only be covered for a 90 day warranty.
Since the replacement, (~3 weeks) we have not had any issues. Thanks to the community here for the helpful advice!

Hello.. Like everyone else we were getting the F1 error code for a month or so and our Model WTW6400SW1 Cabrio washer was just over 1 1/2 yrs old. We just started getting another errors code F51 so we looked on the web for info.. found out about all the other people have the same issue. We called the 800# and Whirlpool was very nice and said the knew of the problem and would send out a repairman for free no charge... today the man showed up are replaced the parts to FIX the problems.. I will let you know how it goes... just call Whirlpool's 800 number and mention you saw many other customers with the same error codes F1 and F51 the got there unit fixed for free.... Whirlpool should recall these Cabrio units and bite the bullet... it is a design flaw for sure.

Well I'd like to know how you all got your washers fixed when after 45 minutes argueing with whirlpool on the phone they refuse to say that this is a problem nor are they gonna help me fix it. I pretty much told them at the end I will never own another whirlpool product and will tell everyone I know about this issue. In no shape or form am I gonna pay 25 - 50 % of what the washer cost me just over a year after I bought this piece of ****.

I've had my cabrio washer for about 2 1/2 years, so I've been lucky to just now get the F1 message. Had a frustrating talk with Whirlpool, they will send me the part at no charge, but need a part number. I will have to pay $100 for a diagnostic and another $100 for installation. I have a call into the service center to try to get them to give me a part number. Will let you know how things go!

I have the same problem with my machine, but a different model. My model is wtw6400sw1 and guess what it not under recall. GO FIGURE
The bad thing is I only bought mine two and a half years ago, and this is my secound error code. If you haven't recevied the f51 code just wait. These machine are a piece of work. And I won't explain in detail about whirlpool customer service, but you can quess. This machine was a waste of nine hundred dollars.

I have to press the cancel and start buttons atleast 12-15 times in order for the machine to start and when its on the rinse cycle the F1 code appears again. It seems only and the start cycke and at the rinse cycle. Anyone have any idea how to fix it

"F-1" on my Cabrio. Called Whrilpool three times today. First call would not tell me what an F1 code means, told me to unplug for a minute or so to "reset" the system. Called second time and was given to a nice person who said the code indicates a water pressure issue. She had me check for kinks in the supply lines and intact screens. She suggested unplugging it for 20 minutes.NO Luck. Called third time after finding this web site and was told to schedule dianostic service and have service call Whirlpool for determination of who is paying. My model is wtw6200sw2. I am hoping to have same luck some of you had. It must be a known problem that need to be corrected on such high end machine

I have had my cabrio almost 3 years. It recently started this "F1" thing. I contacted Sears (where I purchased the unit form) they told me to call Whirlpool, there is a recall and the problem will be fixed for free. I am holding on the line with Whirlpool as I am typing!! Wish me luck!!

I have only recently started getting the dreaded F1 message. So far, it happens when I select a Delicate cycle/low spin speed, shortly after pushing the start button. If I restart the machine and choose a slightly different cycle (for example, the medium spin instead of low spin speed), then it often works... but if I restart the machine and choose the exact same cycle, it still spits out the F1 error. What a bummer! I've only had this thing for a couple of years, I sure hope Whirlpool is listening, and that they'll do right by their customers here! Time to go searching for my receipts to see if its been over the two year mark... hopefully I can get them to come out and fix it for free but I'm not holding my breath...

I have a same F1 issue. My Cabrio(WTW6600SW1) is 26month old.I purchased 3-year warranty from SEARS.Then I just needed to contact with them. The service guy just left my house for taking a look at it. He said this was for a first time for him to see the F1 issue on Cabrio.
However,he has seen same issues on Oasis. He said he's going to replace the "gray box" thing where is located underneath of the control panel(This is the "Control board assembly" which some of them said needed to be replaced, doesn't it?) .I have to wait for the replacement next a few days because he have to order it.However,he just updated the tub ring and a bottom round part which rotates like agitator(I cannnot remember what it's called).I was told these parts have been improved for newer models. It will not be cost anything for us(Technically,it's not a true.Because we had spent $200 for Sears warranty).Still I'm very disapointed this product. It wasn't inexpensive purchase.People pay this much money with expecting longlasting without issues in general.I do think this is definately defective and Whirlpool should solve it for free!!

Thanks to all that have posted !!! I too noticed this one time just shy of my 2 years owning the washer - and followed the manuals instruction to reset. Then it happened again just last night. (now 2 mos after my warranty has expired !). I called this a.m. Whirlpool acknowledges this 'special issue' and will fix for free —parts and labor. This is even without a warranty. Make sure you tell them that.
Just a word of advise.... (and I got this from reading thru all of your posts) - make sure the repair company they set you up with knows that this is a recognized Whirlpool problem, and that they need to bring the part with them. I made it very clear that I wasn't going to let someone diagnose the problem and then come back to fix it. They had to call me back on that, but are going to order the part now in advance. Be firm! Thanks again everyone !!!

I have a Whirpool Cabrio model # WTW6200SW1 and have the same problem with the F1 code. It started some time ago and just kept getting worse! Now I have to push cancel several times a cycle to complete a load. Called Whirpool to see if there was a recall. They would not acknowledge a problem, and refered me to a service guy in the area.
Comment by displeased2, posted on Apr 11, 2009
The error message appears EVERY time i use the washer. I need to restart it 2-3 times presently and the same thing happens during the rinse cycle at 17 or 16 minutes. Whirlpool said that the part was not recalled but that it was being replaced for customers whose washers were 2 years old or less; mine is 2.6 years old. I feel this is very unfair. Like others I purchased this machine because it was supposed to be top of the line. I expected it last me 10- 15 years or more, like my last "basic" washer did. If the part is defective, it's defective....replace it!

i have the same problem and just called the 800 # and was told that this was not a "recall" but a courtesy and that since i bought my washer 2.6 years ago that i would be responsible for the repairs myself. Anyone able to get free repairs after two years?

I have been getting the F1 for a few months now, but finally cannot take it any more. My model number is WTW6200SW0 and the machine is about 2 years old. I called 1800 253 1301, full of hope that whirlpool will stand by their products when they have a known quality issue.
I spoke to Charlotte, and was told that even though my machine has the same part that has the quality issue, they will not repair it free because I noticed the problem after the warrantee has expired. This is a very well know quality issue with the control board (I have board W10104830).
To resolve my “known” problem, they said I must pay a repairman to come out and determine what part I need. The part (control board) would be about $200. Then I would need to pay the repair man again to come out and install the part. I know that I WILL NEVER EVER BUY WHIRLPOOL EVER AGAIN.
I hope you have better luck, and that your known quality issue shows it’s ugly head before the warrantee expires, else you’ll be on your own with huge costs….

Thank goodness for everybody posting on the internet. I just called Whirpool, after being placed on hold for a while I got to a reprentative. Told her I had the F1 problem and I understood that it was under recall. they told me it was not and it just had a quality issue. At first they were difficult because they wanted me to produce my receipt with a purchase date, eventually she said they would cover parts but not the service call. I politely asked for supervsor and that I WOULD NOT pay for service to fix a "quality issue" they knew they had wih this machine. She put me on hold and said "I was misinformed... the servicecall is covered."
They scheduled someone to come 2 days from now. She WOULD NOT give me any sor of confirmation number in refence to a no charge for the visit. i will have to hold my breath until someone comes and hope for the best. Otherwise I will send them away but I will not pay for repairs.
I know I will not buy a Whirpool again. My last washer was a Maytag and it really upset me that I had to replace it and buy a new one after just a few years. My previus washer/dryer were Kenmore, I had them for over a decade. Does anyone make quality products anymore?
thanks to everyone who posted!

same problem, but happens when I start the wash cycle. I press reset, and receive error F1 again after 1-2 seconds. This goes one for 3-4 times, then the wash cycle continues. We purchased this washer at Lowe's, Casa Grande, AZ. Thanks everyone, for the heads-up on this issue. I hope others post more comments.

When doing every load of laundry, my washing machine will display a
"F-1" error, causing me to reset my machine and start my load again.
This will occur anywhere from 2 to 7 times in a load. I have researched
this issue, and have many people having the same problem as me. I called
Whirlpool to ask about a recall that was posted, I was told that the
recall did not apply to my model, yet, the part is the same part as in
my machine. I was told I would have to pay for the parts and service to
have it fixed, or they would offer me a 15% discount on a new machine.
I declined that offer since this machine is only 2 1/2 years old, and
after having a control board replaced 4 times in my whirlpool
dishwasher, I would never by another Whirlpool appliance again. As
stated above this part is defective in other machines why not mine? I have filed a complaint with BBB us.bbb.org. I highly encourage everyone to file a complain, so that we can get these **** peddlers to fix their products.

I have owned my Cabrio washer since April 2007. I am getting the code F 50....which I'm told means the motor is stalled. I can start a load and it will start but when it should start slowly spinning is when I get the error code. I had my first Whirlpool washer/dryer pair for 13 years without issue. Then I purchased a GE that broke after just a couple of years and the repairman recommended Whirlpool instead. Maybe he knows it will keep him in business! Very disappointed with my Whirlpool purchase.

The washer gets to the final spin segment and at that time throws an F1 error message. My wife just told me that it is happening more often than that now on each load she does. We are surprised that for as expensive as the washer was that whirpool has to be forced by BBB to get it taken care of. We will be contacting the BBB also to see if they can help.

We also had the same error code F1 problem on a WTW6200SW1 Cabrio that ocurred after owning the washer for approximately 18 months. The F1 error code would occur at starting the washer for any wash cycle and then again when going from the wash cycle to the rinse cycles. We also disscovered the work around of pressing the cancel/reset button the start button. This routine had to be repeated three times each time the F1 error message occurred. A resultant second problem is the start button was pressed so often that the button/switch broke. This is a small plastic piece but it cannot be replaced or repaired. You have to buy a complete $145 console. We contacted Whirlpool service which sent a service person whom acted like they were not familiar with this proble which appears to be a very common problem. They contacted the Whirlpool Service Center and came back with a $560 repair quote. Guess what I can buy the same washer for a cheaper price than that. I declined the offer after finding this website, but had to pay a $71 service call to get the $560 quote for a well documented problem for which Whirlpool has replaced the deficient part with a new part number. Well I called the service center, and they agreed to replace the board free of charge, but I have to call back and go through the same process again after the current service call is closed. They obiviously don't have a database where they can document and process my call after the service call is closed, so I have to call back today. I am also trying to press them to refund the service call and the console, but have not got them to commit to anything yet. I guess this is the lovely price we pay for technology.

We have a Cabrio washer with the same f1 error message problem. The machine is two years old, Whirlpool has agreed to fix it for free. No real hassle although they tried to get me to pay for a repair trip charge - this is a fee other than parts and labor. I pushed back and they caved. Don't accept anything less than repair at no cost!

After many calls to Whirlpool and waiting them out, I called yesterday and they set up a service call, at no charge, for 10/30. They never actually said there was a recall but they know the washer is out of warranty and said it would be repaired free of charge. I'll post again after they come out.

We called Whirlpool on October 13th and my husband told them he was pissed this machine was not working at less than a year old. He also told them how many people were complaining of the same problem and they told him it was still under warranty, so it would be covered. They told him he was scheduled for repair on Wednesday, he asked this coming Wednesday?, and they said yes.
I waited all day and no one called or came here to repair this piece of garbage. He called them again Thursday and they said we have you on the books for the 22nd which is next Wednesday! So here we are, a family of 5 with no washer and laundry piling up to the ceiling for 10 days! Thank you Whirlpool! I'll make sure to recommend you to all my family and friends! NOT!
I was going to supply our new kitchen when we finish it, with mostly Whirlpool appliances. No way will I ever buy Whirlpool again!
My Mother in law suggested that we just return it to the dealer we bought it from and tell them we want a different brand. She said it doesn't affect them. They will just return it to Whirlpool. I think we will call tomorrow and see what they can do for us. I am not waiting another week to do laundry!

Cabrio F1 Error Code Recall update 10_15_08...Model # WTW6600SW2
Hi All, Here's how the service call went today..There is confusion with the control unit assembly ordering/part #'s...I'll try to explain
- The Repair techs showed up with a control unit assembly (aka mother board) with a different part # than what was recommended from 'MyWasherSux'. There was NO BOARD AVAILABLE & will be mailed to my home in 10 days..they will come back & I can wait all day for another appointment
- Techs were unaware of updated assembly parts or recall. They also asked several times if this repair was 'really' going to be paid by Whirlpool...
SOOO to sum up the good VS bad boards...
- W101121113A- My bad Board
- W10104830 -'MyWasherSux' Bad Board
- W10201186 REV A - GOOD BOARD BUT THIS PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE OR HAS BEEN REVISED AGAIN TO THIS PART # W10189966
I'll post again when they return to service...In the meantime I will throwing my own "F" code as I try to wash our stinky football, la cross, gym & coaching uniforms...good luck & Huge thanks to all of you that posted info...

Our CABRIO washer (purchase date 3/4/07) is also having F1 error code issues for the last months or so, very frustrating!
- Pressing Power on/off and cancel, or choosing different wash cycles will only work for a few loads-if your lucky! The troubleshooting section of user manuel suggests doing the above then - calling for service...useless information.
- Next I will try to unplug from the wall to reset or reboot the problem
- This needs to be a recall issue...
- I do not reccomend this washer/dryer combo...we had dryer trouble in the 13 month. And our whirlpool frig has requred early repairs also
- such poor quality - I no longer have any confidence in whirlpool anything!

I have the same problem with F1 error message. I hit pause/Cancel button 3 or 4 times and then washer will start. This also happens between rinse cycles. I purchase the Whirlpool Cabrio Top load washer in 07. I am now have trouble with service repair availability as well as they want to charge me $65.00 diagnotic service, labor charge and parts charge. This stinks for a washer just a little over 1 year old. I did not purchase an additional warranty because I trusted Whirlpool as being a long time user. Was I ever wrong.
Comment by Katieliz, posted on Oct 13, 2008
Where to begin...my daughter threw in a load of her laundry last night. She called me down today and told me there was a problem and that she had it happen the previous evening. She said it keeps flashing 44 minutes and F. I looked it up in the manual and saw that it said to hit cancel/pause, and then start again. I did this 4 more times with no change. It just continued to wash going back up to 51, then down to 44 and stopping again. It's like it's stuck between cycles. We couldn't even get it back open, even after unplugging it! Finally, hours later it is unlocked, but not working right still. We will be calling for repair tomorrow, but not until I call Whirlpool. I see from recent posts they are finally covering repair for this problem. We bought ours just last December!

As suggested by MANY others, PLASE go to the Better Business Bureau web
site and file a claim. I did so (as many others) and I got reimbursed
the parts&labor from Whirlpool... hence there IS a problem b/c
Whirlpool agreed to pay even after warranty expired. Please also sign
up for the class action as detailed below. I documented the class
action in my BBB.org claim and I am sure that helped.

I also have the F1 problem. I took advice and called Whirlpool, they offered the part free of charge, but wanted me to pay for the service. They admitted no fault, and acted like this was a new problem. This was not good enough for me, my machine was only 18 months old. I contacted the BBB, and filed a complaint. I told them that Whirlpool knows about this problem, yet is willing to do anything. I gave them this link also. That was on 9-18-08. I was contacted on the following Monday, and a service man was sent on Tuesday, with a new control sensor board ordered. Please complain to the BBB, if you have this problem. It seems to be the only way to get them to take care of their faulty equipment.

I bought a Whirlpool cabri washer 18 months ago ( now out of warranty ). Its giving us F1 codes continuously. We have to reset and reset numerous times to complete a cycle. Some cycles won't complete. Whirlpool finally sent me the part N/C after complaining . My local dealer was no help getting the part from their distributor. I think Whirlpool has a quality issue with the cabrios and isn't stepping up to their consumer base.

Same problem here! I purchased the Cabrio Washer and Dryer from HHGregg in Charlotte, NC on 9/05/06. I had to have the washer replaced less than 1 month after delivery related to and F51 code (no, it was not easy but HHGregg eventually stood by the product). I am now having F1 errors with the new machine! How rediculous this is that I paid $2000 for a supposed TOP OF THE LINE machine from a reputable manufacturer! Lucky me...I purchased a 5 year full coverage warrenty but I am tired of having to deal with these problems!!! Everytime I call for service I have to wait for the repairman to come out...then wait the couple weeks to get whatever part they may need.
Comment by DennisB643, posted on Sep 14, 2008
I posted several months ago with the same problem. Ultimately, like so many other of you; I had to have the motherboard replaced at a cost of around $250 for parts and labor...and get this... they wanted me to rurn in my old motherboard for recycling (so they sould see it to someone else). I told them I wasn't turning in anything. The best they could come up with is an additional 12 months warranty. I love the washer but I think Whirpool should have stepped up to the plate and did the right thing. I am very disappointed.

My Kenmore Oasis he3 Just started doing this last week. We get the f1 code at the start and have to reset repeatedly to get the washer to work. The unit is about a 15 months old. We purched the unit based on consumer reports and we even told an elderly friend to purchse one. I have a whole house insurance policy that will pay for the repair, but I do not want to do this again. Our unit is in an AC laundry room.

I don't think whirlpool will ever acknowledge that they have a problem...oops--my bad! Robin, a supervisor has just arranged to have my washer fixed by my local dealer for no charge! It could be my lucky day--Maybe I should buy a lottery tik !!??

Bought the washer 17 months ago, had a F-1 code flashing also on the spin cycle. Called out a repairman who found the code documents (lift up the washing machine, look under the washing machine, the documents are there in the back of the machine) and those docuements itself said to, "replace the motor board".. The cost for this item is approx: $169.00 retail without labor and with labor add another $250.00. I got livid, called whirlpool at 1-866-698-2538, spoke with Todd and rasied enough stink to have the part sent to me FREE (savings of $169.00) even though I was out of warrenty and was told that Whirlpool would be sending out an authorized service repair man to install it once I received the part. This....had I gone through the regular repair and paid for it, would have been in total of over $389.00. I will update this posting to let you know if I was charged anything when the "authrozied dealer" came out.....
Anyone feel free to email me.
Just tell me "whirlpool" in the reference section so I dont delete you!

Just an update on the petition. It currently stands at 131 signatures. Since it has risen so high in a short amount of time, I am going to hold off sending it until we reach 200. I am still going to go thru with this as I feel the CEO of this company needs to see how wide spread this problem is and how unhappy their customers are. I may even offer to send him, at his cost of course, the original part. MAYBE then someone will look into the shotty parts this expensive machine is put together with!

How surprised I was in opening the mail today and finding a refund check from Whirlpool for the part! I got the refund quicker then the part. My husband was able to replace the part, but the lady from Whirlpool asked if I had a bill from who put the part in. I don't know what prompted all this to happen to me other then maybe someone did check out this site and believes there is a problem with the original parts.

Same F1 problem that everyone else seems to have. Washer stops and requires multiple pause/start button pushes to get it going again. Whirlpool would not admit there was a problem ("no known quality issues") and since it was out of warranty (17 months since purchase) they would only give me the phone # of a recognized repair co.
The technician came out and said it was the main electronic board (part W10155009, cost $165.99). I called Whirlpool back with this information. They were very courteous, but again would not admit there was a problem. They did, however offer to send the part to me at no charge. I will be responsible for labor and service calls. If you want to go this route I suggest talking with Customer Service before paying for a part through a repair co. because they are sending it to me direct.
This is obviously a parts quality issue and while I don't think I should be paying anything, I need a washer and I'm out of warranty. I'm taking the some is better than nothing approach. My main concern is that if nothing has been done to correct this issue and they send me the same part I could very likely be back on this site a few months from now.

Anyway... my husband installed the new part last week. The washer worked fine for a week. Yesterday we got the F1 error code with 15 minutes left in the cycle during the rinse. So basically I bought ****...bought a little more **** and still have ****!

Talked to corporate office rep 1-269-923-0600 and indicated they deny the existence of
any issue with F1 code and they cannot even look at this web site, nor
will they acknowledged it existence. I have partial transcription of phone
conversation, including the rep permission to use it. I will explore a
law firm that can take this as a potential class action as the
executive office at Whirpool indicated there was no other team for me
to talk with (very polite but not helpful).
as indicated below there is a class action pending. So I will point a local law firm to this site and see if we have merits for a formal claim.

Same F1 deal here. I thought this interesting... The technician came out today and replaced the Control Unit Assembly (Part W10104830) with a "revised" Control Unit Assembly (Part W10201186 Rev A).
It was the opinion of the technician that the original part contained a known defect (or defects); hence a new "revised" replacement part. Part cost 143.74.
Whirlpool should PAY for this part!!!

They have not (or won't) even acknowledged this sitein the responses to my emails. I sent them the link along with some of the actually comments here and it was swept under the rug. The petition is at only 19 names so as soon as we get atleast 100 I am sending the petition and all the posts from here to Mr. Fetit. If our problem is so small to them, why don't they just send the parts we need without having to pay an arm and leg for them, since we already did that when we purchased our machines.
If the part comes and doesn't solve the problem, I will file a complaint with the BBB.
Comment by lsalazarg, posted on Aug 07, 2008
This is clearly an issue, but a company like Whirlpool would not take the chance to acknowledge there is a problem because of fears of a recall that could cost millions. Best path by now if to keep a record of the many individuals having the issue, go to www.bbb.org and fiule a complaint and point them to this site. Also write to consumers report organization and point them to this site. I received call from Whirlpool executive offices after doing so (always wrote my claims in a respectful tone as this is something that just happens sometimes and Whirpool is right at not acting until there is enough evidence of a massive problem. 62 reports are nothing compared with the hundreds of thousands of units sold).
If This path goes nowhere, next action would be filing a class action suit where we would need at least 2-3 individuals filing that claim. But that is an scenario where only the lawyers will make money and it will take years for us to get this fixed!
So please take the time, file the claims at BBB/.org and at consumers reports.org
If this is properly documented I am positive that Whirlpool will fix it.

My washer incurred the F1 error code just after the warranty ran out and while we are still paying for the 0% interest loan from Best Buy. I contacted Whirlpool @
whirlpool_customerexperience@whirlpool.com, however they tell me I am the only having this issue.
"We are sorry to hear of the problem that you are experiencing with the error code on your washer display. We have not had any known problems with this model washer. You may try disconnecting the power to the unit for approximately 10-15 minutes to reset the control. Otherwise, you may need to contact service to diagnose the unit for you as there may be a malfunctioning component in the unit that is contributing to this failure code."
Please write to them and flood them with your problems.
"We invite you to contact Whirlpool again either by calling (866) 698-2538 between 8:00am to 8:00pm EST weekdays or by emailing whenever the need arises. When calling please press the available option or stay on the line to reach a representative."

I also had the same problem with my whirlpool cabrio. The machine started to have the F1 error message (beeping sound from the beginning of the wash and 17 minutes before my entire load of wash is done) 1 month after my warranty ended. I always have to pour two buckets of water from my sink in order to finish my laundry. After I poured the buckets of water, I press cancel button and start button. It's a pain in the neck of having to be present while washing my clothing. I called up Whirlpool and they say there would be service and parts charges. I am going to file with the BBB.

I finally got customer service to admit that others may be experiencing the same problem I have, but that there weren't enough numbers for them to take action. The repair for my machine was made today. Whirlpool paid for the part, but I paid all other fees ($137 for labor and $58 for an extended warranty). I bought the extended warranty because I am not convinced this will not happen again. Trying to get anything from Whirlpool on this has been a nightmare. The repairman said my Cabrio (purchased 12/06) also has a history of flashing F51. This would be another costly repair at my expense. Not happy with Whirlpool, and don't plan to purchase anything Whirlpool in the future! Please send letters to the CEO mentions on this site. I have sent my letter!

Same exact thing as everyone else. I e-mailed Whirlpool about the problem and they called me back and gave me a wrong number to call with the model and serial number. I eventually got the correct number and the rep said they had no record of a manufacturers defect on this washer. I offered to give them this website address to read all these complaints with the same problem but they didn't want it. They just kept saying they could send a tech out to repair it at my cost since out of warranty.(Problem started the month after warranty went out). They obviously care about the consumer when we're buying, but not when we need service. They are so short-sighted, they don't realize the value in taking care of this manufacturer's defect. I guess they figure there are always more unsuspecting people to take advantage of, so why worry about it.

Same problem as EVERYONE else who has one of these. I thought I was getting a quality machine and paid top dollar for this machine & the matching dryer. Some upgrade! The machine is about 14 - 16 months old at this point and in the last month it started getting the F1 error at the beginning of a load, and at the rinse cycle of EVERY SINGLE LOAD. I haven't called anybody yet, but will be calling Whirlpool, writing letters, and complaining like a mad dog until they make this right. Please join me in this effort & with more people bugging them constantly, maybe they will handle it.

My problem is the same as many others in this list. I purchased the washer in December 2006. Recently, it began to show the F1 error code at the beginning of the wash cycle, shortly after the lid interlock closes. It takes repeated cancel/power/start cycles before one can coax the machine to perform properly. So far, once the washing cycle begins, it seems to properly go through the entire cycle successfully.
I tried various remedies (disconnect and clean the water hoses, unplug the washer power to reset the electronics) none of which made any difference. I suspect that the F1 problem is connected to the safety interlock circuitry but that's just a hunch. Is the interlock powered by a solenoid that over time gets dirty? In any event the F1 problem continues.
I spoke with a customer service person today who offered me a free replacement part but would not assume the cost of the service call or labor. Since I don't have confidence that a replacement part will work any better (based on reading other postings to this list) I declined this offer.
My next endeavor is to write the CEO of Whirlpool. Should anyone else wish to do so here is the address provided by the customer service rep:

Same problem f1 at 18 months I
was told to change the control module, part cost $178.00. This is garbage not the top of the line "CABRIO". should have bought a washer for $200.00. I will never buy anything Whirlpool again.

Purchased my Cabrio set in April 2007. Have had problems with both washer and dryer from day one. Bought extended warranty..felt I had to. Last month (14 mos. old) started getting the F1 problem code. Like everyone else, I pause, restart or start over. I have unplugged the washer. Keeps happening... yes, it is very annoying and I too thought I'd purchase the "high end" washer/dryer. What a mistake! Whirlpool should have to fix this problem.

Okay friends: Let's connect the dots: The F1 code and symptom on the Whirlpool Cabrio is the same as the F1 on the Kenmore Elite Oasis...not to mention all these problems are happening in the same time frame.
I'm not sure who assembles these things for Whirlpool and Kenmore, but they're likley using the same vendor for the control circuts (the grey box is labled "FSP".
I would suggest calling Corporate with complaints. If no response, write the president of the company. If no response, write the board members.
My thinking is to start with "...hello, I just got off line and found that I am one of a growing number of people having the same F1 problem with the washing maching I got from you, and I was wondering what program you had set up to respond to this faulty maching...."

This is absolutely ridiculous!!! Our Cabrio has been flashing "F1" for about a month now. It started only doing it at the beginning of the cycle. Now it does it in the beginning and the middle. Last night I had to push the pause and then start button TEN times to get it to do anything. I still don't think it finished it's cycle. I think my husband got fed up with it and turned if off.

F1-the whole bit-same as the other f1 problems. i put about a pint of water in the soap container before I put the he soap in, works to start the machine ,than it stops at rinse---17 minutes --I hit pause and start again and it finishes.
Comment by rockyswanson, posted on Jul 09, 2008
F1--------------18 months same problem , just had the repairman here and he asked for the owners manual.I make my machine work by puting water in the soap dispencer, about a pint, than the soap. Than it stops at the rinse cycle and i have to hit pause and start again, starts at ---17 minutes just like everyone else. i wonder how many more haven't found this site yet.

This machine was a huge mistake for all of us and per my so many calls to whirlpool Customer service we are going to get used to, they have not offer any solution for any problem and the last advice from one of the CS rep, was to unplug the machine for about 5 minutes to reset, I could not belive what she was saying......Brand new product $1000.00 dls Washer and your only option is to stand next to it and unplug it every time one of the error codes shows and stop working.
Comment by raven15132, posted on Jul 07, 2008
Well we tried to unplug the machine for about a minute and my husband cleaned out the hoses......still get F1. We are going to try and unplug it for 24 hours and see if that helps. Until then, does anyone know the part number for the machine control assembly? Thanks in advance!

We bought our ridiculously expensive Cabrio washer in Dec 2006 because it was rated so highly by Consumer Reports. HUGE MISTAKE. DO NOT EVER BUY THIS MACHINE!!! One year and 3 months later, (conveniently past the warranty), we begin to get he F51 error. Whirlpool agrees to pay a technician to fix the problem (I believe they know about this serious problem but are too cheap to recall). Three months later, three technicians later, we still don't have a washer that works and Whirlpool will do nothing to help us. I would never recommend Whirlpool to anyone after this experience. Their customer service has been terrible. And well, the product has been a disappointment to say the least.

I am having the same problem as everyone else. My washer is now 14 months old and the F 1 codes have started. They happen 3- 6 time when the load is first started and once or twice when the rinse cycle starts. The Tech has been out and the part is on order (now on back order 6 to 8 weeks). I have not contacted Wirlpool Yet. I was feel pretty good about my chances of having them step up to the plate and cover my repairs until I found this site. I am shocked about this as I did my research on the internet and @ Consumer's Report before I made my purchase.

I have the same F-1 problem that everyone else describes. Have to hit pause then reset several times at the begining until it works. It also sometimes stops in the rinse cycle. I have to stay nearby to be sure it is working. I bought this higher priced unit beacuse I wanted dependable performance.
It is so frustrating to go to change the load and find out it has never started, or stopped part way through. Wish I had reserached this product before I bought it. But now at least I know to avoid whirlpool appliances in the future.

When any cycle first begins, I have to hit cancel then start every 7 seconds until it decides to run. Then, when there's 22 minutes left in the cycle...right as it starts to rinse, I have to do it at least once or twice to get it going again. There are enough people having trouble with this....this situation has class-action lawsuit written all over it. I would love to make them own up. I've researched this for 3 months, and there are endless people with this trouble. Mine started 8 days after my 1 year warranty expired. I've been a single mother of 3 for 3 years, and I haven't had $200 to drop on a repair bill, so I'm still living with it. They need to be forced to recall the washer or foot the bills for the repairs. If anyone is interested in pursuit of a possible class-action suit, please contact me.
I'm going to post this information on every site I can possibly find. If I get enough takers, I'll figure out what to do next. I work at the courthouse and I have access to loads of information about things of this nature....
Thanks,
Karen

Hi... my family purchased the Cabrio washer in May of 2007. About a week ago it started showing the "F1" code and I was shocked to find this could be a major fix and Whirlpool isn't doing much about it. I emailed Whirlpool and told them my problem and I even gave them the link for this site and today I received "an offer" that we could buy the part, thru them, and they would give it to us at a 50% discount.
Of course they also stated the following:
"Please note if the parts have already been purchased or are on order with your service technician we will be unable to assist any further at this time."
We also have 30 days to take them up on their offer.
This weekend I'll have my husband try the "unplug" method and clearing of the pressure hose and see if that helps ours. Otherwise I am not sure what we will do.
Thanks to all of you that submitted to this site or I would of never known this is such a problem that I beleive should be part of a recall.

IMPORTANT!!!!!
I had the same problem with my washer (17 months old). Called local service technician to come out. He blew out "pressure hose" with air compressor and now machine works fine (cost $85.00). Technician asked if I used powder detergent (I don't) and said that sometimes people who use powder and cold water setting have problem with debris accumulating in hose.
Hope this helps someone!!!

Same with me F1 error after only 18 months. This is the second time the washer has needed to be fixed. The first time was an F51 error. This will be the last time I purchase a Whirlpool.

We just started having the same problem as everyone else. F1 code. Washer is 14 months old. Also I'm glad I'm not the only one frustrated with the knotted and tangled clothes. This is B.S. We finally decide to go with top of the line machines and this is what we get!

My Whirlpool Cabrio also has an error code F1 at 17 minutes.

Bought Cabrio on 1/19/08, got F1 message on 6/7/08. We bought the extended warranty but we're not happy that we'll be without machine for a at least a few days assuming that service stocks the part.
FYI, we had a Whirlpool dishwasher that was recalled and discount coupons sent. I don't remember, but it might have been result of a class-action; believe I had to sign a release to get the coupon. Food for thought....

A few seconds after I start a load, F1 pops up on the display. I pause and restart 2-3 times, and then it seems ok. Sometimes F1 will show up during the wash cycle. My washer is only 18 months old. As a previous poster stated I cannot babysit this expensive washer. It is so frustrating when I go to switch loads and F1 is displayed and the load is not finished. My clothes are often severely tangled around the agitator....I hate this buyer's remorse.

Having the same problem. Washer was purchased in Oct 2006, so washer is only about 18-19 months old. So far I have tried the pause and start over, I end up powering down and doing a rinse only cycle. I have also noticed that some cycles seem to have this more frequently than other, like the Perm Press/Casual and Darks Colors cycle seem to give me more trouble. Quick Wash has not yet given me this error. Might just be coincidence. I have called Whirlpool and they want me to check the inlet hoses and screens for debris. I will see if this helps and post again.

I'm having the same problem and my washer is 17 months old. I was both happy and distressed to google this problem and see that I'm not the only one dealing with this. I haven't contacted the manufactuer yet but I will. I found another possible explanation for the problems that this model is experiencing-the heat. I keep my washer in the garage and according to information shown on another web page, this is an issue for the more advanced circuitry. Follow this link if you want to:

After reading all these postings, this is OBVIOUSLY a manufacturer's defect. My washer is 14 months old & outside warranty. The F-1 code shows up at the beginning of every wash cycle. I hit "pause", then "start", it errors again and I repeat this process 4 times. It will then run until 17 minutes are left (rinse/spin) and F-1 code shows again. This time it takes 2 "pause" then "start" sequences. This is extremely annoying. I will tell everyone not to buy Whirlpool since they will not take ownership of this problem.

Had Sears tech come out today and repace the board at a cost of $358. and get this...he wanted to take the old one so they could rebuild it because he said they had a shortage. I told him he wasn't taking MY old board anywhere at these prices.

I am having the same problem with the F1 code. When this happens, I restart and make sure I am pushing down on the lid, I think its a problem where the lid is no longer tight with the latch. This seems to have worked, or at least for the last couple of weeks this has started to happen.
When my Cabrio was only 11 months old, about 3 months ago it leaked from the bottom of the washer and they came out and replaced the bottom of the washer.

I'm having the same trouble. Very irritating. Washer is barely broken in. As usual, it is out of waranty. Found no mention of the problem or F1 error code when searching the whirlpool website, how curious. Really need to know if whirlpool is taking ownership of the problem.

Having a similar problem with out 13 month old washer. Just started flashing the F1 message. We were hoping this would be an isolated occurance but it happens just about every time now. Not surprised nothing works like it should any more!
Comment by Guest, posted on May 12, 2008
Exactly 18 months old. We have to do the pause start thing 3 times and then check on it to see if it stopped mid cycle. I called a tech, he had no idea what to do except check the conections and said if it happens again unplug it and wait 15 minutes. Did that it don't work!
Comment by Guest, posted on May 10, 2008
We are having the exact same problem and we have had our washer 18 months. About 1 minute after the load starts we get the error message, and then again at 17 minutes left. For now we simply press "pause" and then "start", and that has been working although extremely annoying. Whirlpool should do a recall, this is ridiculous. Anyone know how to trigger a recall?
Comment by thepen, posted on May 06, 2008
Yep, same thing. F1 code. Has progressed so that it takes about 10 to 12 pause and restarts to get it running. VERY FRUSTRATING>

- f1 code comes on right at the beginning, no matter what the setting.
- i have tried turning the agitator, sometimes helps.
- latest fixer is too lift up the front of the machine about 6" and let it drop, it worked for at least that load of laundry
- called whirlpool and they said they have no knowledge of others having this problem.
- lady at whirlpool was nice, and asked if i wanted them to send out a tech. the machine is 15 months old and i am going to spend more money on an expensive machine that is advertised as top of the line?
- got to go and drop the front end of the machine again.

f1 flashes even when no clothes are put in the washer. this ususally happens when it first starts, before any water is dispensed. i have tried switching from auto to large and it sometimes works. sometimes i spin by hand the agitator a few turns, and that works.
never again will i buy whirlpool

Mine has recently developed the same problem of quitting just a few seconds after I hit the start button (F1 Error code), and is rapidly getting worse. Sometimes it will run when I hit cancel and restart several times, but usually hangs up again on the start of the rinse cycle. So now I have a washer that not only mangles and knots up my clothes and washes poorly, but won't even run without constant supervision. This from a washer that was twice the cost of my old, reliable one. Mine is not even a year old.

I just had the tech guy replaced the rectangular electronic part. He changed the part in 20 minutes!!! I got charged $161.00. I was able to get the part for free....But this is BS, we should all complaint to Whirlpool. According to the technician, Whirlpool has changed the part 3 times!!! They are well aware of the problem. My washer is a Cabrio and is 19 month old. I will be calling them and try to get my money back!!!! Thank you for letting me vent!!! I'm pissed.......................................
Comment by Guest, posted on Apr 07, 2008
Mine is also less than 1 1/2 yrs. old. and the F1 message comes on as soon as the door locks (within a minute of being turned on). It is EXTREMELY frustrating! Obviously there is a flaw that Whirlpool should look into and not make customers pay for the new part.
Comment by Guest, posted on Apr 04, 2008
Well, I guess that I am number 5. I also have the same F1 problem and was purchased at the same time. It started off mild and continues to get worse. Being very unhappy with my purchase, I was able to complain enough to get Whirlpool to replace the part for free but I have to pay the labor. I think that I will try to replace the part my self.
Mine is 1.5 yrs old. This is definitely a design issue. They sent a new control board but I am starting to believe that this is something to do with the connectors oxidizing like the technician suggested in reply to this thread. Solid state electronics don't go bad that often but if their is too much moisture around the components due to bad design then that could cause a problem.

I have the same problem. With 16 minutes left, the washer will start beeping and toss out the F1 error code. My husband has taken to shutting the machine off, and then running the drain and spin cycle. This works, however it's very frustrating to me that a washer that's less than a year and a half old should have such a problem.

Our washer is only about a year old too! Can't believe a washer in this price range would go bad in just a year...sounds like a common problem.
