Question about Computers & Internet

Adobe/ActiveX issue Every time I try to download Adobe flash, the download begins, but always fails to install. The error messeage tells me to go to adobe.com/tn_19166, this does not install either. I can see the video, but it gets stuck before completion.

Exactly as Raedez describes, but the links in the response don't work for me.

  • Raedez Mar 04, 2008

It was helpful, however, the problem comes when I try to save the standalone installer to my computer. I can see the red blocked 'F', and the green line video on my screen, but the installation stalls there, and goes no further. Another box pops up, asking to install an activeX control. Then a message that says 'failed to install, see adobe/tn_19166.' I even get an error message when trying to install this.

I am still having the same problem. Even as I am emailing this, the Falsh movie is on my screen, but will not go to completion. I cannot view most videos online with it. I don't know why all of a sudden it does not work onmy system, because I had no problem for years. Thanks, Raedez

First of all, go here and download the Flash uninstaller (and save to your computer).

next go here and download the standalone installer (and save to your computer).

Close ALL browsers.

Run the uninstaller to remove any old (possibly corrupted versions) and then run the installer.

Hopefully this will solve your problem.

I've just had another look at this. It would appear that you get a different version of the page using Internet Explorer. (I checked it using Firefox)

    Try this link.

    http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/fla...

You should get a pop-up box - Select the 'Save' option. This should allow you to save the standalone installer.

Let me know how you get on.

Is probably aFlash Player error. Please followthese steps to upgrade to the most recent version of Adobe's Flash Player: 1. Beforeinstalling Adobe Flash, you will need to first uninstall any older versions youcurrently have running on your computer. To do so, download Adobe'sofficial uninstaller here. Make sure to select your correct operatingsystem, and then "Uninstall Flash." 2. Now thatyou've uninstalled the older version of Flash, follow Adobe's instructions for reinstalling the most recentversion. You can download Flash Player on this page: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ 3. Once you'vedownloaded the file, please exit your browser first, and then install theupgraded version of Flash to you're computer. 4. Finally, open your browser again and go to YouTube. You should now be able sosuccessfully watch videos! If theinstructions above don't resolve the issue, please also try the following: 1. Temporarilydisable popup blocking software installed on your computer to test. 2. AllowYouTube.com as a trusted site in your Firewall software. 3. Ensureother applications like Quicktime, iTunes, Real Player, or Windows Media Playeraren't set as the default streaming application, as this might affect the videoplayer. 4. Make sureyour computer is set up properly for Flash:Confirm you allow the websiteFlash content to play on your system
View the settings manager for your Flash Player installation. 1. Right-click(Windows) on any Flash content. 2. Select" Global Settings." 3. Select"Global Storage Settings panel." The Adobe Flash Player Settings Manager should display. 4. Select"Allow third-party Flash content to store data on your computer." 5. Restartyour browser and try playing an embedded video.
  • To view or change the privacy settings for websites you have already visited, use the Website Privacy Settings panel.
  • To view, change or delete the storage settings for websites you have already visited, use the Website Storage Settings panel.

Check the browser security level
Make sure that the security level is not set to High or to acustom level that doesn't allow viewing of ActiveX controls. Typically, thedefault security level (medium) allows you to view Flash content. For a customlevel, ensure that both Download Signed ActiveX Controls and Run ActiveXControls And Plug-ins are set to Prompt. For example, in Internet Explorer: 1. ChooseTools > Internet Options 2. Clickthe Security tab 3. ClickDefault Level, or click Custom Level
  • Find the section ActiveX Controls And Plug-in
  • Set Download Signed ActiveX Controls to Prompt
  • Set Run ActiveX Controls And Plug-ins to Prompt
If I could be of furtherassistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate itand give a testimonial for my response.

I can't download adobe flash player, I think it has something to do with my flash card witch is not working either I downloaded various things from toshiba site BIOS, Utilities, and a flash card compatible...

If you have problems installing Adobe Flash Player, follow the troubleshooting steps below. If one step does not correct the problem, move on to the next step. After each step, you may want to restart your machine to ensure that your changes take effect before moving on to the next step.

Uninstall all previous versions
Before you install Flash Player for any Windows browser, uninstall all previous versions. For instructions on removing the player, please see "How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control"
at this link...
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html

Note:All applications must be closed before you run the Flash Player uninstaller. Quit all running applications, including all Internet Explorer or other browser windows, and all Instant Messenger clients. Check the Windows system tray carefully to make certain no applications which might possibly use Flash Player are still in memory.

After you have removed previous versions, you are ready to download and/or install Flash Player.
2. Download Adobe Flash Player Flash Player is available for download from the Adobe Flash Player Download Center.
3. Troubleshoot Adobe Flash Player for Internet Explorer Before installing Flash Player, please check the following browser settings:
Internet Explorer ActiveX settings Browser security settings should be chosen by you or by your system administrator. For single users who do not have an administrator, the Medium: Default Level allows you to view Flash content. For any Custom Level, ensure that both the "Download Signed ActiveX controls" and "Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins" options are set to "Prompt".

To change your security level:
  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Choose Tools > Internet Options.
  3. Select the Security tab.
  4. Select Custom Level.
  5. Find the section "ActiveX controls and plug-ins".
  6. Set ' Download Signed ActiveX Controls' to Prompt.
  7. Set 'Run ActiveX Controls And Plug-ins' to Prompt.
If you are having trouble installing, make sure that your Internet Explorer security level is not set to High or to a custom level that does not allow viewing of ActiveX controls.
Windows Vista installation failure On some Windows Vista systems Flash Player may be installed, but will not display Flash content. In some cases updating to the latest Flash Player using the included utility can correct the User Account Control settings that cause this problem.
To run the utility, find your installed Flash folder:
  • Right-click C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\FlashUtil9d.exe
The letter changes with each Flash version, so may be "FlashUtilb.exe" or "FlashUtile.exe"
  • Select "Run as Administrator"
  • Follow the steps to complete the Flash Player installation
  • Restart your computer
Computer user permissions User permissions determine whether or not you are allowed to install ActiveX controls or plug-ins. If you don't have Administrator access to Windows NT, 2000, XP, or Vista you may not be able to install Flash Player successfully. Administrative privileges are required for the Windows system registry and for the C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash folder.

Can't get Adobe Flash Player 9 ActiveX.exe to download.

Flash player 9 is actually not the latest version. If you want to install the latest version which is version 10, follow the steps below:

b. Quit ALL running applications, including all Internet Explorer windows, other browser windows, AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger or other messengers. Check the Windows system tray carefully to make certain no applications which might possibly use Flash Player is still in memory.
c. Open the following folder: C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash
d. Run Flash Player uninstaller.
e. Check if there are files left in the folder: C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash. If there are any files left inside the folder, delete the files.
