Slow connecting to the wireless network

Hi there,

have just bought a new laptop with vista, and have set up the default wireless network settings for the household router. when ever i start up it will take about 20 to 30 mins before it will connect. and if i try to connect manually it diagnoses the problem "authentication timeout" and the only solution is to wait.

i have a computer on the same wireless network with the same settings running fine and i am pretty sure the router settings are correct too.

any help appreciated

Turn wireless on

The router or 2-in-one (router/modem combo), must be set up
through your Internet Service Provider and connected with either a DSL line or
Cable.

Since most Acer laptops have built-in wireless, no
additional hardware is required.

Turn on the laptop.

Move the switch located on the front of the laptop to the
right, then let go.

The switch will go back to its original position.

Confirm that the wireless networking icon has appeared on
the screen.

Right-click the wireless icon in the bottom right corner.

In Windows 7 this will resemble a small stair-step triangle;
In Vista it looks like a tiny monitor.

Click "View available wireless networks."

It might also say "Open network and sharing
center."

Wait while the adapter finds your wireless network.

Click to highlight the network and click the
"Connect" button.

Enter the security password that you created when setting up
the router (if applicable).

If you don't know or can't remember, log in to the gateway
page specified in the user's guide.

Locate the "Wireless security" settings page to
see if security is enabled.

If it is, type in a new key and enter the same
number for the wireless network.

I was trying to create the Recovery Management disk but everytime I try to burn the CD it keeps ejecting. I would really like it if you could provide some help. I recently bought this E-Machine computer...

Welcome to Fixya

Please see procedure below on how to create recovery disk. Let me know if smae thing will happen.

  • 1

Click the "Start" icon on the Windows Vista home screen. Select "eMachines," then click "eMachines Recovery Management." The eMachines Recovery Management program opens.

  • 2

Click "Create Factory Default Disc." The program will tell you how many discs you will need. Make sure the correct optical drive is selected, then insert a blank disc into that drive. Click "Start" to begin the burning process.

  • 3

Remove the disc when it is finished burning and label it "Recovery CD 1." Insert the next the next blank disc if one is required. Click "OK" to begin burning the next disc. Repeat this step until all of the discs have been created and labeled. Close the eMachines Recovery Management program, insert the system CD that came with the laptop and restart the laptop.

  • 4

Press "F12" repeatedly when the eMachines logo is displayed on the screen to be redirected to the Boot menu. Select the optical drive, then press "Enter."

  • 5

Insert Recovery CD 1 when you are prompted to insert the recovery disc. The eMachines Recovery Management program will open.

  • 6

Click the "Restore" tab in the list on the left side of the eMachines Recovery Management program window, then select "Completely Restore System to Factory Defaults." The computer automatically restarts and the recovery process begins. Insert any additional recovery discs as requested. The computer will reboot automatically when the laptop has been recovered to its original factory default settings, and you will be taken to the Windows Setup screen.

Where do i switch on the wireless on my laptop, COMPAQ NV9000

    Hi,

I was unable to find your model notebook, but most are turned via 3 ways:

1: Wireless Switch on the side or front of your pc.

    2. You can do so from the control panel under wireless settings. (XP/Vista)

    3. HP/Compaq Assistance software installed on your pc. This can be found by clicking on the start menu, and scrolling until you see something like "Compaq Utilities". Use this to configure and start your wireless network.

    Goodluck,

How to enable WI-FI function on Compaq Presario 2500 lap top.

    Go to "network connections"

It should say Local Area Network and Wireless network (if your card is installed properly). Right click the Wireless Network and make sure it is enabled. Then click "View Available Wireless Networks" and choose your network.

If you are trying to setup a secure wireless network, that may be a completely different issue.

    Wireless Problems!

The computer looks for the cable because wireless is not working.

If wireless card is usb try removing laptop battery, unplugging power adapter and wifi cards, connect in five minutes and see if it works

If it still does not work, reinstall wireless card drivers.
If you have a disk reinstall them from disk.
If you lost the disk download drivers from the Internet, post model on fixya to get the link.

If the wireless card does not work after reinstalling drivers then it is probably faulty.

Note: if you use laptop internal wireless, usually you need to activate a switch to get it working.

    Internet connection

    dear kandy

So you can't even ping a website, right?

A few suggestions and questions to try to isolate the source of the problem:

    1. Are you going through a wireless Access Point connected to a wired router, or are you just using a wireless router? Please post the exact makes/models of your wireless devices.

    2. When the Internet access dies, can you at least ping the IP of the router and/or Access Point, or the IPs of any of the other computers on the internal network?

    3. Check your system log files to see if Windows is recording any error messages related to the connection drops in those logs:

Open the Event Viewer utility in your Administrative Tools control panel.

In the Event Viewer, look through the System and Application logs for entries flagged as "Warning" or "Error"; double-clicking on any of those entries will open a "details" window with more information about the error/warning. If you find any entries that seem to relate to network errors, post the full and exact contents given in the detail windows.

    4. To determine if the problem lies specifically with your wireless connection or with your network software in general, connect the laptop to the router via an Ethernet cable and see if you still experience the problem.

oke i have this post can help you
