Tried hardsetting (removing batteries overnight) without success - any other ideas?

  • billsergeant Mar 05, 2008

Hi pauldonp! Havr tried everything you suggest - lens cover now halfway shut;otherwise, nothing to report. Can't feel any movement of lens - so perhaps problem is lens motor? Have tried both normal and lithium batteries. billsergeant.

Hi give this a try remove battery and any mem card thats in it then hit the side of the camera into the palm of your other hand this might free up any bits of grit or dirt that has gone down side of camera let me know once you have tryed this.

The beeps you are getting means their is a fault with the lense could be either dirt or grit stuck down side of lense blocking it from opening or it could be that the lense motor has gone

  • paul proctor Mar 05, 2008

You can tell if the lense motor is working by gently touching the lense whilst switching the camera on and off if it is working you should feel a slight movement but might only be slight so have goo try at this.
But try banging the camera into the palm of your hand this wont damage the camera as the palm of your hand absorbs the shock but doing this sometimes clears the grit blocking the lense

  • paul proctor Mar 05, 2008

You know you say lense cover is open.
so you can see the lense glass then?
is the lense flush with the camera like it is when the camera is in off position?
let me know then i can assist further

  • paul proctor Mar 05, 2008

hi give this a try also gently push the lense in slight further this should allow the lense cover to shut as the lense cover works from the lense not a motor so it will shut when the lense goes in far enough so gently push it in further till cover closes then try switching camera back on you might find this solves your problem let me know how you get on ok

  • paul proctor Mar 05, 2008

If you are unable to push the lense in further or cant do it then can you try and pull the lense out a bit whilst switching on the camera let me know after.
    are you still their?

  • paul proctor Mar 05, 2008

If still no joy then try pressing menu then on button at same time hold down till camera comes on this should reset the lense let me know how you get on also

  • paul proctor Mar 05, 2008

Also depending on the battery you use if you use regular batterys then this can cause the problem your having try lithium batts they give alot longer life

  • paul proctor Mar 05, 2008

If you cant feel nothing whilst holding lense and switching on and off then the chances are the lense motor has gone.
The problem you have is you wont get it repaired knowbody touches them not the sort of parts you need its just not financially worth it as it would cost more to repair than buying new camera.
If you could push the lense in further to close the cover then try switching on this usually solves the problem but as you cant feel anything whilst switching on then the chances are motor has gone.
Sorry i couldnt give you good news but if you could feel the motor trying to work then you could keep trying to get the lense to close but as you feel nothing theirs no way its going to work sorry i couldnt offer more help but their is nothing you can do

My s800 camera wont turn on or it does but the zoom/lens is stuck and wont come out-it then has 3 beeps and turns off

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some things that you can do that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try.

this problem is a is usual occurrence when the camera is not well powered.

please ensure you get the battery with right voltage and wattage, the required is usually written around or in the battery compartment.

Hi,
The problem is of zoom lens motor which operates lens cover along with zoom, and it needs replacement with new part, and camera will start working fine again.

Samsung digimax s800 not swiching on

The problem is that the lens is jammed. I had to take my camera apart to unjam mine manually, the cogs that move the lens are not lined up with each other, thats why you hear the motor turning and then you get the 3 beeps because the lens hasnt initialised

Samsung S800

If the camera fell on it's lens it is probably jammed. Try to find something small, strong and thin, possibly a hairpin and slide it into the barrel while gently trying to force it outwards immediately after switching it on. When it does extend, try to clean or blow out any grit that may be inside the mechanism. The batteries are hot as your camera does not switch off and may be remain on for hours

It wont turn on, And the zoom is extended.

I had exactly the same problem. Lens stayed open, when powered on you get three beeps and nothing. I found when I pulled the lens out a little harder it gave a little click. When I powered on it worked perfectly.

A temporary fix to power up is to press the menu and power button at the same time. When the lens is extended and it beeps, on my camera , the lens is *stuck* Give it a gentle tug , then try the power button again
