- its a avr 487 reciever, cause I forgot to post that in the question.
-   I have the same prolem. I have an avr-4800 and all the channels work fine except the center... I can't determine if its a decoder issue or if the channel just went dead... I do get a very minimal hiss from the speaker leading me to believe that it is the decoder. I also tried using the preouts.. I have the same issue. It also looks to be that the sub preout has the same issue as well. About a week ago while watching cox, everything would "matrix" in and out as if the stream had become currupt or the decoder lost track of the signal timing. I moved the box to the top of my rack thinking that it being enclosed might cause some heat issues. Hadn't had the issue since. I just can't believe that a product I paid 2 grand for three years ago is already on the fritz. Especially when I have a 400 dollar Sony receiver that's sound is comperable is still in use today and its nearly 8 years old.-   xk2600

Hi, I have a Denon AVR-4800 to which I have connected a pair of Sony ES series CD decks. I'm using the optical connections and have the AVR-4800 inputs set to "Optical1" and "Optical2". The CD decks play fine but I can't figure out why there is no output at the analog Tape1 and Tape2/Mon outputs. In order to record from either CD deck I have to connect the RCA cables between the 4800 and the CD decks. I assumed that I would be able to record from a CD using the optical inputs since the optical/digital sigal is converted to anaolg at some point. Does the 4800 not provide an analog output from optical input sources? Or have I missed something in the setup? Thanks, Jeff

Occasionally, it switches rapidly from "HP-on" to "HP-off" but still no sound from speaker outputs. I can get sound from the headphones when they are plugged in. I have owned this receiver since 2001. Any assistance you can provide is appreciated!
