PC & notebook wont recognise DV connection

My comupters wont recognise that my camera is connected. I have bought 2 separate firewire cables and still nothing happens. I have tried different programs, it was sent away for warranty but returned because it was apparently working. I cant get my PC to recognise the camera so that I can capture....run out of ideas and options.

I have tried that and found that the IEEE 1394 is enabled. My PC tells me that my IEEE 1394 is functioning properly aswell in device manager. When I connect the camera the LCD screen on the camera blinks and the PC also blinks as if it detects something, however the camera is not listed on the PC and the programs cannot detect it...

The camera is a Samsung VP-D371Wi. Has anyone else had problems with this camera? I am just about to give up really, becuase Samsung wont help me because warranty found the camera to be functional, the store wont help me, and I have no where else to go...

    Any ideas are extremely welcome

Is your firewire controller turned on or enabled in the BIOS? Maybe its off. when your PC boots up, use the F2 key or del to get into th e BIOS, under peripherals, there may be a firewire controller that can be disabled/enabled. Check that and get back to us.

I recommend you, test the cable, the Firewire ports. test connection.
Plug the firewire into the camcorder BEFORE turning it on,
You must use a Firewire cable and FW ports (Firewire to Firewire) NOT USB port
Check the cable no bend.
1.- Try with other cable
2.- Try connect a different Firewire port on your PC (or connect to other PC)
3.- To test the FW port on your PC connecting other devices by example external hard drive
If the Hardrive work fine the problem is with your camcorder

I have the sony DCR-HC26E handy cam i'm trying to connect it with my pc (windows 7) by using usb cable it wont work my pc doesn't recognise my camera ....thanks

USB connection will allow still photos ONLY to be capture to a computer. To capture the footage from the tape you will have to connect with a firewire cable, also called iLink or IEEE1394a. Windows Movie Maker will be one program that can capture the footage.

Sony PC110E video camera that is not recognised by PC

Buy a 4 to 4 pin or 4to 6 firewire cable (depending of Your PC model). Connect it to PC. In any case, the system must to recognize firewire device and capture the images. If PC don't want to see Your cam via direct firewire connection it means the firewire out is broken and needs to be repaired.

You should have a DV Cable 4-pin to 4-pin firewire (part number VC-VDV204U ) which came with your camera. It would not have firewire on one end and usb on the other. They are two seperate technologies. see http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-a-firewire-to-usb-adapter.htm

Canon MV800 - FireWire connection

firewire is also called 1394 or dv port-card can always be added to older computer to support-cables are 4 pin to 4 pin or 4-6 pin-cam is always 4 pin -mac and most towers 6 pin-laptops are 4 pin-look for a port that looks like usb but has a trapezoid shape end

Camcorders problems

It seems you've tried some of the steps I would suggest already. However, to avoid any confusion I'll mention them anyway:

-When you connect a camcorder using DV cables, you have to use the playback mode rather than the PC Connect mode. The firewire connection is a p2p interface for streaming.

-The camcorder sometimes does not show up under "My Computer" when using DV connections as no removable drive needs to be installed. In this case, the camcorder may still be recognized and you should use the "capture" feature of whichever software you prefer.

-Most camcorders require that the AC adapter cable be used during capture operations for various reasons. If you are not connected to AC power, this could halt some functionality.

-Generally camcorders require a cable and IEEE1394 card that are OHCI compliant. Very rare you would find any that aren't, but it may be worth checking into if you're still having issues.

-Obviously, as you've mentioned, checking the device manager and BIOS configurations to ensure your hardware is operating properly was a good call.
