I'm having trouble with sound as well. Last evening I was listening to a webcast from a federal government website. Tonight, I'm unable to get any sound anywhere! Followed all the trouble shooting suggestions and still no luck. Unfortunately, this laptop was purchased used, so I have no original

    Instruction Book,etc.

That's in the control panel, sound settings..you may need to remove them entirely, and let the system 'see' them on restart.

You could have a ghost device in the system. Remove the card and start the computer in safe mode. Look at the device manager to see if there are any sound devices detected. If so, delete them. Now install the card and let Windows detect it. You probably left the card in the machine when reinstalling the O/S. You shouldn't have any peripheral devices hooked up when doing a reinstall of Windows XP.

I just put windows ultimate on my old hp laptop that initially had windows 7 and everything seems to be fine apart from the audio. At first i thought that it was the drivers but after installing the hp...

This sounds like a Compatability issue with Windows 7, check with HP to make sure your machine is compatable. You may not be able to use windows 7 on your PC. Make sure the drivers you have downloaded are the correct ones and are listed for Windows 7, vista ones should work but may not. Xp ones will definately not work

No sound in Windows 7

Hi,

Uninstall all the audio drivers and restart the computer. Make sure the audio jack is in the Green audio port.

Let the operating system re-detect the audio and install the drivers for it itself. When its done see if you have any sound.

Post back if this does not work.

Good luck.

Re-Install the drivers from the system disk that came with your computer. If no disk, go to the website and download the drivers for your model computer.
