If your display has gone dimmer and dimmer or just gone out it is probably the display board. There are a few capacitors on the back of the board. There is one that is 68 Microfarad 35 Volts. It is common for this one to go bad. I replace it with a 68 Microfarad 50 Volt rated one and that usually solves the problem.

To srfandtrf: I just put a 32-cent capacitor in my formerly dim, and then completely dead, panel, as you advised, and it works like a charm. Saved me about $165-$385, you did, depending on how you slice it. My hat is off to you. (FYI, I used a straight-across replacement 68 mf 35 volt; didn't see any reason to go to fifty volt.)

where do you find the capacitor on the control board that needs to be replaced?

  • Karen Mitchell Nov 27, 2011

Thanks for sharing the solution. Changing the capacitor (68 Microfarad 50 Volt) did the trick. The technician root caused the issue to be the control board and estimated the charge to be $345. Changing the capacitor was only $0.51. Locating the capacitor took a little work but it was way worth it. Fry's & Radio Shack did not have it. I found it in the local electronic store (Metro Electronics in Sacramento). NOTE: The capacitor size was different than the one on the board but it worked. Also, if you are not sure which capacitor to change on the board, look for the capacitor labeled 68 mf 35 volt).

Unfortunately this seems to be a problem with several of the jenn air models. I have replaced quite a few and have also talked to thier tech line for servicers and they don't have anything else to offer other than replacing the control board. Each time I ran across one I found no other problems and I tested everything. If you replace 3 times you can usually get them to give you a new one.

Replace digital display for Jenn-Air range

Obviously, safety first. This being an electrical fix, unplug or otherwise disconnect the power to the appliance.
A philips screwdriver and 1/4" nut driver(or socket) are all that's needed.
First, there are 8 fasteners on the underside of the control panel. Only the 4 nearest the oven openning need to be removed from here.
Next, remove the burner knobs for the stovetop(simply pull straight off; if stuck, wrap a folded wash cloth behind the knob to gain extra leverage). Then remove the 4 screws that were behind the knobs.
At this point the panel should be loose and pulling out the bottom of the control panel will allow it to clear the knob shafts. Be careful not to pull too far, as the wires to the control board are rather delicate.

I would recommend putting 'surge protection' on the house breaker panel. I would suspect that you are getting power bumps that kill the EOC. Do you have power outage and lightning? has some good stuff. Have an electricaina install it at the meter. Or you can put it right in the main panel yourself if you know how.

ja_question.gif Why are the oven indicator lights flashing? Answer: When power is first supplied to the appliance, a flashing time will appear on the display.
If a flashing time appears at any other time, a power failure has occurred. Press Cancel, and reset the clock if needed.
When the oven is not in use, the display shows the time of day.
If the indicator lights keep flashing after you have tried to reset the controls, then you may need to contact service person.
